Job Title : Medication for Opioid Use Treatment (MOUD) Nurse
Reports To : Pharmacy Operations Supervisor
Job Summary : This flex position will provide comprehensive medical care within scope of practice to clinic patients by cooperating with other medical professionals in a team environment, while maintaining professional medical standards.
The primary responsibility will be to administer medications to patients in treatment. Secondarily this position will provide nursing expertise to various areas of the clinic.
Responsibilities or coverage can include any of our practice areas. As part of UCS Healthcare, team members will follow all laws and regulations, including those at the Federal, State, and Local level.
They will also adhere to all UCS policies and procedures, including patient confidentiality, HIPAA / 42CFR part 2, and all CARF requirements.
All team members will operate in alignment with UCS Healthcare’s core values, work effectively in a team environment, provide or support patient-centered services, and strive to assist UCS Healthcare in delivering the highest level of care.
Essential Functions (90%) :
Administration of Medication
- Administer medications to patients in treatment.
- Count client medications and initiate call backs to monitor for diversion or abuse / misuse.
- Make appropriate request to provider when medication dosage change is indicated and carry out those orders in an accurate and timely manner.
- Assist clients with guest dosing.
- Reviewing patient's prescriptions and OTC medications to ensure they are properly prescribed and to assess whether client is aware of adverse reactions.
- Communicate patient status through legible and precise documentation.
- Review eight-point criteria for take home medications.
Nursing
- Perform nursing assessments and history and physical examinations on all new admissions or readmissions when necessary.
- Perform venipuncture and injections as ordered by physician.
- Carry out all physician orders including telephone orders.
- Assist the physician with clinic, rooming patients and ensuring compliance.
- Record and report all observed symptoms and changes in the patient's condition to the interdisciplinary team members and medical director if necessary.
- Make appropriate health referrals whenever necessary.
- Obtain urine specimens according to agency policy and federal regulation and make appropriate report of results.
- Perform daily nursing assessments on patients involved in the detoxification program.
- Provide first aid to patients and staff as needed and make appropriate referrals as needed.
- Provide technical assistance to the staff in understanding a patient's medical problems.
- Keep the Medical Director informed of changes that occur in clinical and medical matters.
Departmental Communication and Support
- Collaborate effectively with other departments to ensure seamless patient services.
- Respond to inquiries from various departments within the clinic promptly and professionally.
- Complete and apply training to maintain and enhance knowledge of clinic policies, procedures, and relevant software.
- Attend departmental meetings to stay informed about updates, changes, and improvements.
Other Functions (10%) :
- Answer phone calls related to nursing / medical questions and make appropriate referrals.
- Assist in monitoring patient activities while on center property.
- Monitor and maintain clinic environment with clinic setup and cleanup.
- Assist in managing medical inventory and supplies.
Minimum Required Qualifications :
- Unrestricted license in the state of Iowa as a RN
- CPR certificate
- Venipuncture skills
- Ability to work independently and exercise discretion and own judgment
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to work with diverse populations and handle sensitive information confidentially.
- Ability to work as a team with other staff, both in Medical as well as in collaboration with other departments
- Must have strong leadership and communication skills with a clinical background
- Capable and competent in computer data entry and general program navigation
Preferred Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in nursing
- Demonstrates understanding of substance use disorders and comprehension of patient education
- Clinic experience in a mental health or family practice clinic
Physical Requirements :
- Able to sit or stand for long periods of time
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Able to bend, stoop, squat, crouch throughout the day
- Ability to use a computer and other office equipment
- Communicating with others to exchange information
- A valid driver's license is required and liability insurance or an equivalent means of reliable personal transportation and coverage as travel within the state of Iowa may be necessary
