May require some weekend and evening work. Job Description The Dental Hygienist provides preventative oral care under supervision of dentist.

Includes both client-focused and population focused activities. Required Qualifications Current state dental hygiene license.

Radiography certified.

Minimum of one year hygiene experience.

Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with Dentrix Software. Licensing / Certification Dental Hygienist licensed with the Ohio State Dental Board.

• Provides dental hygiene services, prophylaxis, scaling and root planing, radiographs, fluoride treatments and dental sealants.
• Provides dental education to patients and caregivers.
• Prepares treatment room for patient by adhering to prescribed procedures and protocols.
• Prepares patient for dental hygiene treatment by welcoming, soothing, seating and draping patient.
• Selects materials and equipment for dental hygiene visit by evaluating patient’s oral health.
• Completes dental prophylaxis by cleaning deposits and stains from teeth and from beneath gum margins.
• Detects disease by completing oral cancer screening, feeling and visually examining gums; using probes to locate periodontal disease and to assess levels of recession.
• Educates patient by giving oral hygiene and plaque control instructions and post-operative instructions.
• Schedules next dental hygiene appointment.
• Documents dental hygiene services by recording vital signs and medical and dental histories; charting in patient records.
• Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
• Maintains dental supplies inventory for clinic, mobile outreach equipment and ODH sealant program by checking stock to determine inventory level and verifying receipt of supplies.
• Arrests dental decay by applying fluorides and other cavity-preventing agents.
• Follows practice protocols : quality assurance, biohazards, infection control, charting, referral, periodontal assessment, caries risk assessment, and emergency treatment.
• Attends meetings and in-service trainings to advance technical knowledge.
• Performs job duties under the regulations, policies and procedures set forth by Summit County Public Health and outside agencies such as the County Fiscal Officer, Ohio Department of Health, and state and federal government.
• Loading and unloading mobile dental equipment to provide community outreach services.
• Completes sterilization monitoring weekly.
• Adheres to all HIPAA requirements.
• Completes annual goals and training as outlined in Employee Performance Evaluation Plan.
• Provides access to services for all persons who seek and need care.
• Performs 100% of duties in accordance with standards operating procedures, standards of practice and regulatory requirements.
• Performs any other duties as required for the efficient operation of Summit County Public Health.
• Other duties may include :
• o Answering calls and returning phone messages
• o Scheduling clients and confirming appointments
• o Entering demographics / insurance / charges into software.
• Obliges, as set forth by the Summit County Public Health Emergency Operations Plan and within the scope of their employment, to be available for emergency service during routine and non-routine hours of operation including 24 / 7 / 365 availability.

May be required to have medical clearance for respiratory protection or other personal protective equipment and may be exposed to inclement weather, extreme temperatures, unpleasant smells or odors, dust, dirt, fumes, airborne particles, pesticides, toxins or caustic chemicals.
