At Houston Methodist the MRI Technologist IIposition is responsible for a variety of routine to complexdiagnostic MRI procedures to include common and special MRI examsof high difficulty.

This position is a member of the direct patientcare team and is fully competent in all aspects of magneticresonance imaging (MRI) exams.

The MRI Technologist II positionserves as a mentor to MRI Technologist I and students by utilizingskills and knowledge to help train and educate others.

Thisposition works independently by exercising sound judgment andexecuting above average clinical skills on challenging diagnosticprocedures and patient care situations.

The MRI Technologist IIposition provides direct assistance to physicians with alldiagnostic and special MRI procedures. This position deliversexceptional patient care and adheres to MRI exam standards andguidelines established by governing agencies to ensure optimalpatient safety and customer service.

  • Facilitatesopen professional (verbal nonverbal written) communication toachieve mutual understanding role modeling by example.

Communication to promote both work efforts and problem resolutionis clear and professional providing the highest quality serviceduring every customer and patientencounter.

SERVICEESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performsdiagnostic MRI procedures to include common and special MRI exams.MRI exams use magnetism radio waves and a computer to produceimages of body structures and gives insight on the chemical makeupof tissues.
  • Proactivelyassesses identifies and responds to the needs of the patient foradjustment or intervention to optimize patient care image qualityand patient experience.

This includes : positioning physiologyprocedure preparation and technical factors. Modifies technicalfactors to achieve desired imaging results and recognizescomplications and limitations associated with certainprocedures.

  • Providesdirect assistance to physicians during diagnostic or special MRIprocedures including assisting with steriletechnique.
  • Providesaccurate explanations and instructions to patients and familymembers at an appropriate level utilizing verbal and nonverbalskills terminology andlanguage.

QUALITY / SAFETYESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Followssafety standards and conducts all imaging procedures accordingly.Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures regularlypractices aseptic techniques and ensures compliance with MRI safetyand infection control procedures.

Complies with job role departmentand hospital safety standards practices andpolicies.

Identifiesopportunities for corrective action and process improvementproviding recommendations and contributes to meeting department andhospital targets for quality and safety.

Reports near misses andinputs errors promptly into appropriate hospital patient safetyreporting system to improve processes and identify trends.

Utilizescritical thinking skills to observe and proactively address patientreactions (i.e. contrast media and medications) or potentialoutcomes asappropriate.

Ensures allimaging equipment has had quality control (QC) performed asrequired and is in safe working order prior to use.

Reports anymalfunctions to management and regularly practices preventativemaintenance procedures; calls for service ifneeded.

Assists withimplementation and education of department based safety initiativesand standards ofpractice.

  • Provides accurateand complete documentation of patient procedures. Enters charges atthe time service isdelivered.
  • Uses resourcesefficiently; does not waste supplies. Selfmotivated toindependently manage time effectively and prioritize dailytasks.

Activelyparticipates in special projects department initiatives or sharedgovernance activities and seeks opportunities to expand learningwith a focus on continual development.

Completes and updates theindividual development plan (IDP) on an ongoingbasis.

Fosters a positiveand constructive teaching environment by engaging students andcoworkers (MRI Technologist I) in learning opportunities that arevaluable and in alignment with businessobjectives.

WORKEXPERIENCE

Three yearsexperience as a MRI Technologist

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONSREQUIRED

  • ARRTMR RadiologicTechnologist Magnetic Resonance Imaging (ARRT) OR
  • ARMRIT RegisteredMagnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist OR
  • CMRT Certified MedicalRadiologic Technologist State Licensure AND
  • BLS Basic Life Support(AHA)

KNOWLEDGESKILLS ANDABILITIES

  • Demonstrates theskills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assignedjob determined through ongoing skills competency assessments andperformanceevaluations
  • Sufficientproficiency in speaking reading and writing the English languagenecessary to perform the essential functions of this job especiallywith regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety orsecurity
  • Ability toeffectively communicate with patients physicians family members andcoworkers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus andapplication of positive languageprinciples
  • Ability to workindependently; capable of handling challenging / difficultdiagnostic procedures and patient care situations.
