Job responsibilities include :
- American CPR certification - required
- Nationally recognized Personal Training certification - required
- Standard First Aid Training Certification - preferred
- Dietary expertise or nutritional certification - preferred
- Previous Personal Training experience in a gym / health club environment - preferred
UCSF Fitness and Recreation inspires growth and health on the UCSF campus through fitness, community, and play. The Group Fitness unit is an integral part of Fitness and Recreation and provides customer service while ensuring participants participate in Personal Training (PT) instruction in a safe environment.
The Personal Trainer works under direct supervision of the Asst Director of Fitness Programs and is responsible for carrying out the day-to-day operations of the Fitness unit, which includes customer service, creating and following lesson plans and providing quality instruction to all program participants.
Note : This is a limited position and ends 1 year from date of hire, with potential to renew annually.

UCSF Fitness and Recreation operates two fitness centers at UCSF. We provide fitness and wellbeing services to UCSF students, faculty, staff and community members through a broad range of fitness, recreation, aquatics, personal training, outdoor programs, and health and wellness programs.

We are a customer service division, providing needed services on all UCSF campus sites and delivering these services with PRIDE : Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Diversity and Excellence.
Required Qualifications
- Nationally recognized Personal Training certification.
- One year or more of experience as a Certified Personal Trainer.
- Working knowledge of program activity practices and procedures.
- Verbal and written communication skills in the English language, active listening, dynamic flexibility, critical thinking, multi-task and time management skills.
- Ability to exercise independent sound judgment and employ reasoning skills.
- Client service minded, entrepreneurial spirit and creative thinking skills.
- Ability to successfully pass FBI and DOJ Criminal Check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Exercise Science or a related field of study strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of campus policies and procedures.
- Basic skills in computer programs relevant to job duties.
- Rehab or injury management experience.
- Standard First Aid Training Certification.
- Dietary expertise or nutritional certification.
License / Certification
Nationally Certified Adult CPR / AED (American Red Cross, American Heart Association or other recognized organization).
