We are excited to be growing our management and policy planning team and are seeking a Transportation Policy and Public Outreach Project Manager to join our team of professionals.

The position is in California, ideally in the Pasadena or Berkeley offices, but the location is flexible to find the right person.

MIG supports a hybrid work-from-home / remote and in-office schedule and encourages in-person work for learning and team-building opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Transportation-Centered Planning and Engagement : You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team that focuses on policy and strategic planning, social science research and analysis, public outreach and engagement, facilitation and consensus building, and organizational development and training.
  • Project Management : You will provide overarching project direction to MIG staff and oversight of work products; lead internal and external subconsultant and client teams;

develop and manage projects including scopes of work, budgets, and schedules to help our clients create innovative and equitable plans and solutions.

In addition, project managers at MIG cultivate and maintain client relationships; support the client to identify the best course of action;

represent clients at public meetings; and meet standards for excellence, responsiveness, and accountability.

  • Collaborative Teammate : You will work as part of a supportive, cross-office, cross-discipline team that collaborates primarily with public and non-profit organizations and communities of all sizes across the United States.
  • Project Work : As a project manager, you will be leading teams as well as creating innovative policy solutions that lead to transformative change and equitable outcomes.

You will work closely with planners, urban designers, landscape architects, and engineers in all aspects of project design, implementation, and development of deliverables.

The work can include research and analysis; technical and policy writing; plan and report creation; community engagement and meeting design;

project administration; meeting facilitation; and client relationship building and interaction.

Project Types : Typical projects you will work on include those focused on corridor safety, bicycle and pedestrian, trails, and transit planning in addition to streetscape and highway improvement plans.

Equity-centered research, assessment, and analysis and equitable community engagement are central to these projects.

Business and Client Development : You will help build and maintain strong and responsive client relationships by developing leads, preparing proposals, attending and leading interviews, and helping to define market gaps and new opportunities.

MIG works on projects nationwide. Some travel, evening, and weekend work will be required for community engagement, site evaluations, client meetings, or to meet deadlines.

Qualifications

To accomplish these responsibilities, you will be able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, think critically and creatively, work as part of a collaborative team in an open environment, and maintain a sense of humor and camaraderie.

In addition, the experience, qualities, and skills we are seeking are below.

  • A bachelor’s degree in public policy, planning, or a related field. (A master’s degree in one of these or a complementary field is a plus.)
  • Relevant consulting or public sector experience in policy, planning, social science research, community engagement, or a closely related field with an understanding of and commitment to quality, inclusive, community- and equity-centered transportation planning.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver effective public presentations, lead working meetings, and speak easily and clearly in front of groups and facilitate client and community meetings.
  • Excellent skills in research, writing, analysis, document presentation, and verbal communication.
  • Demonstrated experience managing public- or non-profit-sector projects, including maintaining compliance with project contracts, drafting and managing scopes budgets, and maintaining schedules, as well as working with clients and partners to execute project work.
  • Relevant experience working in transportation, community planning, land use or a closely related field and have current or past working relationships with metropolitan planning organizations;

state, regional, local transportation planning agencies and / or other transportation agencies. California experience desired.

Ability to develop and implement community engagement programs; collaborating with community members, organizations and partners;

facilitating relationships between public agencies and communities they serve; and working in high need communities.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in equity-centered work including designing and conducting equity analyses; applying an equity lens to plans, processes and practices;

working to eliminate institutional and structural racism and its intersections with other forms of oppression including sexism, heterosexism, classism, and ableism.

Interest in the intersection of design, planning, mobility, and equity and an ability to develop collaborative, productive, and respectful relationships with community members, organizations, and partners.

  • Confident facilitation and public speaking skills in both small and large group discussions and trainings.
  • Software proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Pro. (Adobe Creative Suite, Tableau or other data analytics / visualization tools, and ArcGIS Pro are a plus.)
  • Willingness and initiative to pitch in, adapt, and collaborate as a teammate.
  • Local or willing to relocate to the Pasadena or Berkeley areas to participate in work directly with our teams and clients.
  • A plus, you are bilingual with Spanish or other non-English language.

Compensation is commensurate with skills and experience. This is a full-time, hourly position with eligibility for overtime pay.

The pay range for this position is $28-39 / hour, commensurate with skills and experience.
