Description :

A Post Doctoral Fellowship position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Vijayakumar Velu within the Division of Microbiology and Immunology, Section of Infectious Diseases at the Emory National Primate Research Center, Emory University (ENPRC / EPC).

The laboratory is dedicated to developing innovative therapeutic strategies aimed at curing HIV infection. The research program will focus on recent findings that highlight the potential of using in vivo cytokine therapies and immunotherapeutic approaches to target virus-infected cells, achieving long-term viral control without the need for antiretroviral therapy.

Investigating immunotherapeutics for the cure of HIV

Both programs include preclinical evaluation in state-of-the-art non-human primate model and human model to investigate the HIV curative strategies, the experimental approaches will span immunology, molecular biology, and virology.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS for this position include :

Expertise in basic Immunology / virology / molecular / cell biology techniques such as animal cell culture, virus production, neutralization, lentiviral vector production molecular cloning, Western blot, flow cytometry, ELISA, protein expression and purification, knowledge of CRISPR technology, microscopy, human immune cell assays, etc.

Prior experience in working with animal model systems is highly desirable. Experience in generating data with non-human models is a strong positive, but not a requirement.

Relevant training is available upon hire. Previous experience working in BSL-2+ laboratories with viruses, particularly HIV, is a plus;

Basic statistical knowledge is highly desirable; Excellent oral communication and written skills in English, with good organizational and analytical abilities.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in preferred Biological Sciences such as immunology, virology, biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, and other related fields.

The salary will be according to NIH guidelines as within the Emory Office of Postdoctoral Education (OPE), and commensurate with experience.

EMORY GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION :

Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career.

The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc.

Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator.

May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff.

Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available.

Appointments cannot exceed five years.

EMORY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills.

The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.
