Position Summary

The Division of Gynecologic Specialty Surgery in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Columbia University Medical Center is comprised of 9 physicians, 3 fellows, and 2 nurse practitioners practicing in two unique sections : Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery and Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery (Urogynecology).

We provide comprehensive gynecologic care, exploring different diagnostic and treatment options to treat and manage Gynecologic and Urogynecologic problems, from fibroids to incontinence.

Our providers work with each patient to design an individualized care management plan, from routine testing to the most advanced diagnosis and treatment for women of all ages.

We are looking for a Nurse Practitioner to join our dynamic team in providing outstanding care for our patients.

Responsibilities

The Clinical Coordinator / Nurse Practitioner will report to both the Division Chief and the Division Administrator of Gynecologic Specialty Surgery.

The incumbent will be responsible for providing GYN care services in the office; including assessing, diagnosing, prescribing, treating, and educating patients.

Works closely with the GYN Surgeons and other clinicians in a team approach to patient care.

  • Assists in development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of care and professional practice in collaboration with members of the health care team and in accordance with institutional policies and regulatory agency requirements.
  • The incumbent will perform and document comprehensive surgical, medical and psychosocial health histories, examinations (document pertinent positive and negative findings), and initiate / maintain a problem / medication list.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic studies including but not limited to laboratory and imaging studies, diagnostic impression, and / or form a differential based on the subjective and objective data obtained.
  • The incumbent will collaborate with Physicians to assist in all treatments and procedures, perform preoperative patient interviews and assessments including pre-op instructions, postoperative patient care and instructions, prepare and administer prescribed medications and treatment in accordance with standards.
  • Formulate a goal-directed plan that includes health maintenance, anticipatory guidance and appropriate medical and nursing interventions according to the established protocols.
  • Assist with triaging patient phone calls and processing prescription request, signing off on all normal labs, reviewing all labs and collaborating with physicians in contacting patients with abnormal results and ensuring appropriate follow up is scheduled and handled appropriately
  • Assist in the development and implementation of division initiatives including education programs, QA and CQI
  • Comply with all hospital, department and division policies and procedures
  • Demonstrate effective organization and interpersonal skills to create a team environment and an efficient work flow
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus five years of related experience
  • Must have current New York State NP and RN license and DEA and maintain and renew when necessary.
  • Must be able to meet credentialing requirements.
  • Eager to learn, master, and apply new skills. Excellent organizational abilities and computer skills. Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to be a team player in a busy environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • OB / GYN Experience.
  • Master’s preferred
