Davis Behavioral Health (DBH) is seeking one (1) full-time and one (1) part-time Case Manager / SSW to join the Recovery Supports team, part of the extensive services provided by the Adult Substance Abuse team at DBH.

In addition to completion of a Bachelor's of Social Work (BSW) degree, and active licensure as a Social Service Worker (SSW) in the State of Utah, the ideal candidate will also have personal lived experience with behavioral health and be in sustained recovery for a minimum of two (2) years with a preference of being in stable recovery (5+ years).

The Recovery Support Program at DBH is committed to helping Davis County residents with substance use issues engage with a lifestyle of recovery.

The Recovery Support Program assists clients in all levels of care in treatment with DBH. The selected Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) will provide case management, personal recovery coaching, and peer support through group and individual work with clients who are engaged with DBH's Medication Assisted Therapy clinic.

This position will be working with substance use clients in an outpatient capacity, linking and coordinating needed resources in the community.

The applicant will need to be available at least 1-2 evenings per week.

Essential Job Functions

The Recovery Support Case Manager is responsible for completing the following essential job duties :

  • Conduct in-home needs and strengths assessments, such as the DLA.
  • Develop individualized service plans consisting of mutually agreed upon goals and objectives and update as needed.
  • Link clients with systems of care that provide them with resources, services and opportunities to improve their quality of life.
  • Advocate for individuals who need assistance while encountering barriers in connecting with systems of care.
  • Provide individual, family, and group skills using evidence based interventions to decrease symptoms and improve functioning.

This is done in conjunction with the behavioral health therapist or prescriber.

  • Assist families in gathering natural supports and resources for becoming independent of agencies.
  • Maintain clinical documentation as required by agency standards.
  • Coordinate with other staff and community agencies as needed to provide effective care.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and regularly scheduled supervision.
  • Meet agency productivity standard, currently set at 68 hours per month.
  • Assist clients in applying for social service benefits such as Medicaid, Medicare, disability, etc.
  • Assist clients in finding and maintaining employment and housing.
  • Act as a recovery coach in supporting client ongoing recovery.
  • Perform other assignments as needed and assigned.

Employment Schedule

This position is classified as full-time, non-exempt. The selected applicant will be required to work two (2) evenings between 8 : 00 pm and 9 : 00 pm.

DBH reserves the right to require overtime, weekend work, and / or assignment to evening or night shifts, depending upon operational need.

Some in and out of state travel may be required. Occasional weekend work may also be required, specifically related to recovery support activities.

Compensation

The hourly rate for this position is outlined below :

  • $25.50 per hour + based on years of licensure for candidates with an active SSW license.
  • $21.50 per hour for candidates with a bachelor's degree and no professional license.
  • $18.25 per hour for candidates without a bachelor's degree.

Required Experience

Lived Experience / Recovery

DBH defines someone being in recovery as an individual who has not experienced a life-interfering instance as a result of their mental illness or substance use condition during a specified period of time.

  • Stable recovery is when an individual has been in recovery for 5+ years.
  • Sustained recovery is when an individual has been in recovery for 2-5 years.

Situations such as being required to take extended absences from work or school, hospitalization or residential placement, inability to perform daily activities, negative impacts on physical wellbeing and important relationships, are all examples of life-interfering instances.

Preference is for an individual who is in stable recovery (5+ years) with the minimum qualification being sustained recovery (2-5 years).

Sustained recovery is a minimum job qualification for all peer support specialists at DBH. Employment may be terminated if an individual is not in sustained recovery.

Education & Licensure

The Recovery Support Case Manager / SSW should possess the following minimum qualifications (in order of preference) :

  • Bachelor's of Social Work (BSW), Social Service Worker (SSW) licensure in the State of Utah, and personal lived experience with behavioral health are strongly preferred.
  • Consideration may also be made for applicants with a bachelor's degree in another social science field and SSW licensure.
  • Candidates who have been accepted into a BSW program and actively pursuing their undergraduate degree.
  • Applicants who do not have an undergraduate degree or are not pursuing a degree may be considered only if they have a minimum of five (5) years of sustained recovery and previously professional experience working in the human services field.
  • Candidates who have a BSW degree and SSW without personal lived experience will also be considered.
  • The selected candidate must successfully pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug screening. DBH will not hire individuals currently using illegal drugs or abusing alcohol;

therefore, making employment at DBH conditional upon successfully passing pre-employment drug screening by providing a valid sample.

Candidates who are offered employment are required to report for a drug screen at an Intermountain WorkMed location within 24 hours of being requested to do so by the DBH Human Resources Department.

Davis Behavioral Health works with Federal grants and must comply with the Federal drug laws, including no use of medical marijuana.

The Recovery Support Case Manager is required to be First Aid and CPR certified within 30 days of hire.

Peer Support Specialist and Targeted Case Management (TCM) Certification

If the successful candidate is an individual with personal lived experience with behavioral health, she / he / they must be certified as a Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) by the Utah Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health as soon as possible, but no later than 6 months after hire.

Candidates who do not have an active SSW license at hire must complete certification as a Targeted Case Manager (TCM) within the first 30 days of employment.

Requirements to become a Certified Peer Support Specialist include :

  • Have lived experience and be a person in sustained recovery for at least one year from Mental Health and / or Substance Use.
  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Have at least a HS diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications to become a certified Targeted Case Manager through the State of Utah Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health include :

  • 400 hours of work, volunteer, and / or education experience in human services or a related field.
  • Required 40-hour case management practicum and examination provided by DBH during the TCM certification class.

Preference will also be given to candidates who are bilingual English / Spanish.

The successful candidate must also have a clean driving record to operate agency vehicles and / or transport clients, when necessary.

Davis Behavioral Health utilizes an electronic medical record, which requires proficiency in computer-related skills.

Meeting monthly face-to-face service expectations and productivity standards is also required.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with clients that have severe mental illness, are hard working, and can work both independently and successfully within a small outreach team.
