The Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) is currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated synthetic organic chemist ready to function in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
Applicants should have exceptional communication skills coupled with a strong publication record. Previous experience in fluorine chemistry, organometallic chemistry and multistep synthesis is highly desirable.
Responsibilities :
The synthetic chemistry candidate for this opportunity will be part of a multidisciplinary research team in the Crump Institute for Molecular Imaging within UCLA, located in Los Angeles, California.
This candidate will work on developing novel methods for site-specific fluorination, organometallic chemistry as well as peptide labeling methods and will work closely with collaborators along the chemistry-biology interface.
Interested candidates should be trained in traditional synthetic chemistry techniques and be willing to work in a highly collaborative environment.
Qualifications :
- Ph.D. in Chemistry
- Sound knowledge of organic chemistry reactions, mechanisms, multistep synthesis, and purification techniques
- Experience in organometallic chemistry or fluorine chemistry is highly desirable
- Must be able to prioritize work, multi-task and be very well organized
- Effective problem solving skills
- Must have demonstrated awareness of safety practices required for working with hazardous chemicals
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written) with strong work ethic
- Highly motivated and demonstrates the ability to work efficiently and productively in a dynamic team environment with other scientific disciplines
- Experience in fluorine-18 radiochemistry is a plus but is not required
