Inova Alexandria Postpartum unit is looking for an experienced inpatient Lactation Consultant to join the team!

Schedule : Part Time- 20 hours / week

About the Inpatient Lactation Consultant :

The Inpatient Registered Nurse Lactation Consultant is responsible for providing safe, family-centered patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating lactation plans for the breastfeeding / chest-feeding dyad, as well as for the pumping parent, and is fully collaborative with the patient, patient’s family, significant others, and members of the health care team.

The Inpatient RN Lactation Consultant demonstrates specialized knowledge and clinical expertise in breastfeeding / chest-feeding and human lactation.

As an integral member of the Health Care Team, the Inpatient RN Lactation Consultant functions within the Scope of Practice as defined by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) and follows Standards of Practice as defined by their professional association, International Lactation Consultant Association, and adheres to policies, procedures, and guidelines of care.

• Required Experience : A minimum of two years of Registered Nurse clinical experience in the acute care setting.
• Minimum Education Requirement : Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• Minimum Licensure / Certification Requirement :

o Certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant Certification (IBCLC) within one year of hire

o Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Virginia or hold a privilege to practice in the State of Virginia under the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).

o Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association required upon start
