The Role

Lumen offers a fully immersive, 10-week summer internship program. Our interns demonstrate curiosity, innovation, and a passion for advancing technology.

Program dates : May 30 - August 8, 2025.

Location

This position is hybrid in our Ashburn, VA office.

The Main Responsibilities

The intern supports the development of an AWS-based project using python that helps drive data collection and analysis of our customers and data.

Daily responsibilities include the following :

• Actively engage in SCRUM meetings and sprint ceremonies to provide status updates, discuss blockers, plan future work, and prioritize tasks.
• Develop, test, and debug Python code
• Monitor performance and status of deployed AWS resources
• Participate in code reviews, incorporate feedback, and collaborate with team members to improve code quality and security
• Create and maintain up-to-date documentation of the project's code base, configuration, troubleshooting steps, and architecture

What We Look For in a Candidate

Program eligibility is contingent on the candidate's commitment of the entire 10-week program. No exceptions will be made.

• Required qualifications
• Enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university, rising senior level education status at the start of the internship
• Graduating August 2025 - May 2027
• Preferred fields include but not limited to : Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cloud Computing, Data Science or related field
• Intern must be able to work 40 hours per week during the 10-week program (May 30 - August 8, 2025)
• US Work Authorization Required. Individuals needing Visa sponsorship are not eligible.
• Proficiency and understanding of :
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team, discuss project requirements, and document work clearly
• Basic knowledge / experience using AWS services (S3, Lambda, Cloudwatch, DynamoDB, ECS, API Gateway)
• Software development skills and proficiency in Python, including familiarity with libraries commonly used in AWS environments (boto3)
• Problem solving skills to troubleshoot and debug code using cloud resources and Python debugging tools
• Basic experience using version control software (Git) to collaborate on projects

Compensation

Compensation :

Internship compensation ranges depend on the level of education, geographic location, and experience / qualifications aligned to the role.

Hourly Based Pay Range :

Min : $26.00 / hour

Max : $43.00 / hour

What to Expect Next

Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

This position is eligible for either short-term incentives or sales compensation. Director and VP positions also are eligible for long-term incentive.
