Job Summary :

The role is responsible for assisting research scientists, students, and faculty in the UTA Research Institute (UTARI) with the design, fabrication, modeling, and testing of technologies for research and development projects.

Majority of activities will involve lab work. Perform job duties under direct supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Design the layout, assemble components, troubleshoot, and conduct the embedded programming for Printed Circuit Board (PCB) development.
  • Maintain, debug, and diagnose embedded systems.
  • Perform integration of electronic and pneumatic hardware.
  • Perform design verification and validation of hardware systems.
  • Prepare documentation and contribute to reports.
  • Document work / keep accurate records. Maintain awareness of current technological advancements related to your field.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications :

Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering or related discipline with one (1) year of relevant experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications :

Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering with experience in embedded system design and programming.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • High proficiency in Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design and embedded system programming.
  • Proficient with PCB CAD software (Eagle CAD, Altium, PSPICE, Multisim), Embedded programming (Arduino, C / C++, C#, and circuitPython), microcontrollers (PICS, ARM, hobby boards such as Arduino, Beaglebone, Raspberry PI, ESP 32).
  • Knowledge in mechanical and electrical hardware troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge operating hand and power tools, soldering and fault-testing equipment.
  • Ability to present findings / results through both oral and written communication to internal and external customers.
  • Able to multi-task, collaboratively work in interdisciplinary teams, work on projects independently.
