Associate Director Of Financial Aid

Under general supervision from the Director, the Associate Director of Financial Aid (ADFA) is responsible for counseling and advising financial aid applicants, their families, and the general public about financial aid requirements, eligibility criteria, and its availability. The ADFA manages a caseload of students as assigned while assisting the Director of Financial in the administration of aid programs available to all students. The ADFA will specialize in running systems to package aid for all students in the Student Information System. The ADFA will be responsible for training new staff in financial aid processes and will be expected to supervise subordinate positions.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree required, master's preferred.
  • Position requires strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Individual should be a self-starter and effective in working as part of a team.
  • Three to five years Financial Aid experience is required.
  • Three to five years management experience is preferred.

Job Specific Competencies :

  • Must be competent in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with financial aid software and student information systems is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills required.
  • Attention to detail is important.
  • Must be able to work with diverse populations and possess strong customer service skills.
  • Commitment to enriching the lives of students by promoting a positive learning environment; enhancing the quality of the student experience; and philosophically supporting programs and policies that facilitate student success.
  • Essential Job Responsibilities :

  • Provide financial aid counseling to students and families regarding application procedures and eligibility requirements for various student aid programs including grants, loans and scholarships.
  • Assist student with completion of application forms.
  • Process financial aid; including file review, application verification, need analysis, use of professional judgment and financial aid packaging using Elements Student Information System.
  • Assist the Director with annual financial aid setup in SIS including student budgets and award parameters.
  • Serves as resident expert with technical interfaces including college SIS, COD, HESC.
  • Assists Director with Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) review after each semester and serve on SAP review committee.
  • Serves as primary reviewer of special conditions appeals.
  • Trains new FA advisors.
  • Educate students and their families about financial literacy, debt management and maintaining good academic standing.
  • Represent the Financial Aid Office at various on and off-campus recruiting functions, financial aid information sessions, and internal committee meetings as assigned.
  • Attends training and webinars to keep current with regulations.
  • Regular updating of the college's financial aid webpages.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by the director.

The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands along with fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
