POSITION DESCRIPTION
Marlborough School’s Associate Director of Annual Giving is responsible for planning, executing, and evaluating a comprehensive annual giving program that raises essential funds to support the mission and priorities of Marlborough School.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of annual fundraising strategies, with a focus on growing participation and increasing philanthropic support from current parents / guardians, parents of alumnae, employees, and other friends of the school.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the leadership of the Director of Advancement, develop and implement a strategic Marlborough Fund program, including setting and tracking goals;
overseeing communications and events; managing volunteers; and building relationships that further the School’s philanthropic efforts.
- Project manage all marketing, promotions, and communications related to the Marlborough Fund, including creating themes, managing the calendar and deadlines, and drafting content for all print and digital campaigns.
- Recruit, train, and manage a large team of parent / guardian volunteers, as well as a group of employee ambassadors, to assist with fundraising efforts.
Work closely with volunteers to ensure successful execution of peer-to-peer solicitations.
Manage a portfolio of donors and prospects with the capacity to give $1,000-$25,000 annually. Utilize prospect research tools, partner with Director of Admissions and Division Heads, and set meetings to identify, qualify, and cultivate new prospects.
Move assigned prospects through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship stages through regular meetings, phone calls, letters, and emails.
- Create a mid-level program targeting increasing gifts from those with the capacity to give $1,000 or more.
- Plan and execute Marlborough Fund cultivation and stewardship events such as New Family Celebration, Neighborhood Nights, and Violet Hour.
Assist with the execution of Alumnae Day, Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day, and other Advancement events.
Analyze and segment donor data to create personalized solicitation strategies aimed at increasing gift amount, donor retention, and reactivation.
Analyze giving trends and donor behavior to inform future strategies and improve overall fundraising effectiveness.
- Monitor progress toward goals and provide regular reports to the Director of Advancement and other stakeholders.
- Design and implement new engagement and fundraising strategies for current parents / guardians, grandparents, and parents of alumnae.
- Collaborate with Advancement Services Manager to pull lists and reports, ensure that donors are thanked, and receive a gift receipt in a timely manner.
- Work closely with the Advancement team, colleagues across the school, the Board of Trustees, Parents’ Association, and additional stakeholders to gain insights, build community, and partner to achieve institutional fundraising priorities.
- Utilize technology to build processes that increase efficiency and effectiveness of programs.
- Participate in professional development opportunities, including independent school roundtables.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE
Five (5) or more years of progressive experience managing annual fund programs at an independent school and / or higher education setting, specifically :
project managing donor communications and events
face-to-face solicitation of gifts of $1,000-$25,000 or more
effectively recruiting, training, and managing volunteer fundraising committees.
Proficiency with the following software programs, plus a strong aptitude to learn new software programs as needed :
Google Suite or Microsoft Office
Raiser’s Edge or similar database
Online fundraising / volunteer management software such as Give Campus
Zoom or other video conferencing software.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships quickly, write clearly, and speak to individuals and large groups about the importance of philanthropy.
Highly organized and resourceful problem solver with an ability to work both independently and in a team. Able to balance multiple priorities with little or no supervision in a fast-paced environment.
A high level of discretion and proven record of maintaining confidentiality and demonstrating sound judgment.
Ability to embody, uphold, and articulate Marlborough’s mission, vision, and values.
Familiarity with the independent school market and the Los Angeles philanthropic landscape preferred.
This position is on-site at Marlborough School. Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings as needed.
Reliable means of transportation with valid California Driver's License, with a willingness to regularly travel locally.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Compensation : $100,000 - $125,000
