Our client, is a New York-based nonprofit is looking for an Mental Health Substance Abuse Specialist

Position Type : Perm / Full-Time

Location : Bronx, NY

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop, implement and conduct a variety of structured group experiences toward maintaining and / or developing skills to increase functioning in the environment and the community;

and to gain control over substance abuse problems.

Perform Case Management duties and carrying a small caseload.

With residents consent, communicate with family, collaterals and other Agency staff on behalf of residents.

Participate in staff meetings, staff rounds, supervision, discharge planning and QA activities.

Escort residents to hospital, clinic, emergency room, substance abuse testing, and on going services. While developing linkages, resources and other supportive services as needed.

Maintain appropriate documents, records, statistics, and written reports in an organized timely and accurate manner.

Escort residents when required on public transportation.

Conduct an alcohol / drug assessment for the purpose of developing a restorative service plan with residents.

Participate in or conduct tasks related to ameliorating the effects of mental illness.

Attend all staff meetings, Supervisory sessions and / or assigned trainings.

Perform other related duties as assigned

CRITICAL RESULTS / IMPACT :

Help residents maintain sobriety and remain drug free; while assisting them in learning the effects / dangers of substances on their mental illness.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS :

Three years experience working with individuals diagnosed with a Mental Illness / Substance Abusers (MICA) population. With certified hours toward a CASAC certification.

SKILLS AND / OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :

One or two years experience in providing counseling and referral services to individuals diagnosed with a Mental Illness and substance abuse problems required.
