JOB GOAL
Incumbents are responsible for ensuring the safety of children on school grounds, buses, and in lunchrooms by monitoring behavior and identifying safety hazards.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to read and write in order to communicate and receive instruction, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
- Some positions may require : Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitors children in the lunchroom, school grounds, and / or on bus to ensure appropriate behavior and the removal of safety hazards, which includes : cleaning up spills on floors, enforcing school rules and policies, escorting injured students to the nurse, picking up tripping hazards, intervening and defusing fights, placing cones around hazards, and performing other related activities.
- Picks up and drops off students, which include : escorting students to and from classrooms; delivering messages from parents or teachers;
helping students with required needs; and, performing other related activities.
- Observes school grounds to ensure no strangers come on to school property.
- Attends to children’s minor medical needs on the bus and playground.
- Reports violations of student behavior to the office; alerts office of incidents requiring emergency response or administrative assistance.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
- Assisting students to and from buses
- Seating children in assigned locations on bus
- Washing and disinfecting cafeteria tables
- Assisting children with opening milk cartons and other related items.
- Assisting special needs students to and from bus or parent pick up areas;
- Assisting special needs students at meal periods
- Assisting special needs students with personal hygiene needs.
- Positions in this class typically require : climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
- Medium Work : Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- May be subjected to odors, chemicals, blood and other body fluids, extreme temperatures, work space restrictions, intense noises, and travel.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of applicable Cartwright School District and departmental policies and procedures.
- Basic first aid
- Safety procedures and guidelines
- Monitoring and redirecting children
- Using equipment such as first aid kits, hand-held radios, mops, balls, and other related items.
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
