Power Block Operator - Power Plant

Applicants must reside in the United States. Position is located in Gila Bend, Arizona.Power Plant Operator Job SummaryOperate and maintain power block main and auxiliary equipment while ensuring the safety of personnel, and all equipment and systems.

Prepare daily reports and conduct inspections related to equipment status and availability. Maintains all equipment in optimum operating condition.

Develops and participates in continuous improvement of operating procedures for plant equipment to ensure consistent and safe operation.

Incumbents work rotating shifts covering 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays and overtime as required. This is a safety sensitive position.

Power Plant Operator Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesMonitors and inspects all assigned equipment, determines the operating condition, performs routine cleaning, and makes minor repairs as required.

Assists in plant start-ups, shut-downs, normal and emergency plant operations as required.Isolates equipment for maintenance activities in accordance with the safety clearance procedure.

Maintains neat, accurate logs and records obtained from routine inspections of operating equipment.Operates all assigned equipment including, but not limited to, steam generation, heat exchanger, turbine / generator set, condensate, feedwater, and cooling water systems, all balance of plant equipment, etc.

as required.Assists with the plant makeup water treatment equipment including filters, clarifiers, filter press, reverse osmosis, demineralizers, heat exchangers, and chemical feed systems.

Identifies equipment or system problems and recommends solutions.While working rotating shifts, 12 hours per day, all meal periods and breaks shall be considered as paid, on-duty time.

The employee will coordinate work activities with coworkers and the supervisor, as appropriate, to facilitate the applicable meal and break periods.

Power Plant Operator Other Duties and ResponsibilitiesAdvises unit supervisor and control room lead of daily activities and irregularities in plant operations.

Performs routine housekeeping and cleaning in work areas.Basic skills to read and interpret PFD's, P&ID's and equipment data sheets.

Assists with recommendations for improving operating procedures for plant equipment to ensure consistent and safe operation.

Assists other plant operators and maintenance personnel as required.Understands and operates facility to maintain all compliance requirements.

Notifies Supervisor / Manager if non-compliance in environmental and safety occurs.Ability to work overtime when requested and as needed.

Completes assigned training requirements both online and in-person.Safety sensitive position is a job or position where the employee holding this position has the responsibility for his / her own safety or other people's safety.

A good working knowledge of power plant equipment such as steam turbine, pumps, valves, actuators, compressors, heat exchangers, instrumentation and controls, including routine maintenance.

Must possess a valid driver license.Power Plant Operator Skills and AbilitiesGood organizational skills and good mechanical / electrical aptitude.

Power Plant Operator Essential Functions of the JobThe ability to speak, read and write in English. Ability to perform heavy physical work, occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds of force with assistance, 50 pounds of force on a frequent basis, and up to 20 pounds constantly, performing such activities as grasping, lifting, reaching, crouching, standing, walking, running, climbing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, sitting, and repetitive tasks.

Ability to use emergency equipment in emergency situations, such as respirators and S.C.B.A. (self-contained breathing apparatus).

The ability to discern assorted colors.Power Plant Operator Working ConditionsWorks in normal power plant environment. Potential exposure to hot, cold, sudden change of temperature, dry, wet, dusty, quiet, noisy, moving objects, exposure to sun and rain, high places, and working alone or with others.

Potential hazards include minor cuts, minor burns, electrical shock, falling objects, falls, eyesight and hearing impairment.

Wearing of personal protective equipment is necessary, as is the ability to legally operate Company vehicles. Works 12-hour shifts, day or night, with on-duty meals and break periods.
