GENERAL DESCRIPTION :
Part Time Faculty teach assigned courses in a manner that facilitates student learning and mastery of course material. Part Time faculty are encouraged to participate in course and curriculum development, program and course assessment, student advisement, college service, and professional development.
DUTIES :
- Teach assigned laboratory courses in accordance with the College’s approved course description and competency-based student learning outcomes.
- Assist clinical Microbiology faculty with lab instruction in clinical microbiology courses (BIO 141 and BIO 241) in accordance with the College’s approved course description and competency-based student learning outcomes.
- Meet all scheduled laboratory classes and adhere to the academic schedule, which includes final exam times and other program-related testing.
- Assist clinical Microbiology faculty in assessing student learning outcome achievement and incorporate results into discipline appropriate course planning and personal professional development activities.
- Engage in activities that facilitate student achievement of learning outcomes, such as ongoing feedback, and consultation as needed.
- Prepare and set up labs for clinical microbiology, including media and microorganism preparation.
- Assist faculty with development of demonstrations and experiments and laboratory procedural documents and participates in the preparation and set up of lab practical.
- Collaborate with clinical Microbiology faculty in the development and revision of course curricula. Assist with the implementation of new experiments.
- In conjunction with Microbiology Lab Assistant, maintain lab equipment and stock cultures.
- Collaborate with clinical Microbiology faculty and appropriate Student Services personnel to address perceived student issues which may require special attention.
- Engage in on-going professional development that promotes currency in discipline knowledge and instructional methods.
- Attend Part-time Faculty Orientation prior to completing second semester.
- Adhere to professional and ethical standards of conduct.
- Perform position-specific duties where appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Bachelor of Science Degree or higher in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science required.
- American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Certification with recent clinical microbiology work experience required.
- Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduates of all abilities. Teaching experience, especially at a community college, preferred.
- Exhibited evidence of continued professional growth and development.
