Position Summary :
The Senior Scientist, Toxicology will be the toxicology lead on research and clinical stage programs. They will be responsible for toxicology program strategy and execution;
and overseeing outsourced activities, managing budgets and timelines for toxicology efforts according to Apellis corporate objectives.
The Senior Scientist, Toxicology will be a cross functional scientist who works collaboratively and proactively with all internal and external stakeholders (BA, DMPK, Operations, program teams).
The ideal candidate will be able to disseminate and present complex data summaries to program teams within the organization.
Proactive in decision making and planning must be solution-oriented to find innovative paths to de-risk compounds as early as possible.
Key Responsibilities Include :
- Plan, design, execute, report, and summarize all toxicology activities related to specific programs.
- Search for innovative ways to reduce time, animal usage, and spend while driving programs forward.
- Accountable for a broad cross functional effort with multiple stakeholders.
- Accountable for data analyses, reporting, dissemination.
- Accountable for drafting toxicology sections of multiple regulatory documents.
- Accountable for appropriate level of compliance and quality of studies and study reports.
- Will require literature research, interactive and effective communication to provide fit-for-purpose toxicology strategy.
- Contribute to building a data-driven scientific culture at Apellis.
Education, Registration & Certification :
- PhD in Toxicology / Pharmacology / Biology or related field with 3+ years of toxicology experience.
- MS in Toxicology / Pharmacology / Biology or related field with 5+ years of toxicology experience.
- BS in Toxicology / Pharmacology / Biology or related field with 8+ years of toxicology experience.
Experience :
- Experience with the nonclinical and clinical development processes, and regulatory submission guidelines is required.
- Experience managing CROs is required.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Proven track record in collaborating with a diverse group of people in different locations and of different background.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities :
- Ability to present strategies and data to a broad range of audiences in a credible and engaging manner.
- Independent individual with high integrity & courage.
- Championing collaboration in high performing teams.
- Superior written and oral communication skills and the ability to work with different levels of management.
Travel Requirements :
20% travel expected.
