The Maintenance Technician performs general and preventive maintenance activities on all campus buildings and grounds areas. A typical day involves skilled and semi-skilled tasks to maintain campus-owned machinery, buildings, equipment, and grounds.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Utilize maintenance software to prioritize daily work order requests.
  • General carpentry, flooring, drywall repairs, and painting.
  • Minor electrical, plumbing, and mechanical repairs.
  • Safely operate various maintenance equipment, hand / power tools, lifts, ladders, and forklifts.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment.
  • Maintain campus grounds, including landscaping and snow removal.
  • Repair and maintain doors, door frames, and locking devices.
  • Install and maintain office and dormitory furniture items, wall art, bulletin boards, etc.
  • Perform repairs on commercial and residential kitchen equipment.
  • Maintain professional conduct when working with Faculty, Staff, and Students.
  • Read, understand, follow, and enforce all safety procedures.
  • Understand and comply with all university policies and procedures.
  • Normal hours M-F 1

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

  • Minimum High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record required.
  • Prior experience with Maintenance software programs is desired.
  • Knowledge in one or more of the following areas :
  • Electrical lighting and distribution systems

  • Residential and commercial plumbing
  • Locksmith
  • Preventive Maintenance programs
  • Lawn irrigation systems
  • General carpentry, walls, doors, flooring, drywall, painting
  • Vehicle maintenance, autos, vans, UTVs, and golf carts.
  • Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning
  • Low voltage systems, fire alarm, security, building monitoring, and controls.
  • Experience

  • Minimum one year of experience in a maintenance-related field or formal skilled trades-related training in lieu of experience.
  • Physical Effort

  • Requires bending, twisting, stretching, kneeling, squatting, climbing stairs and ladders, frequent walking, and standing for long periods of time. Occasional lifting, pushing, and pulling are required of objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Working Conditions

  • Work is normally performed in various buildings on campus and outside. Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and / or loud noises. Safety and personal protective equipment are provided.
