DREAM (formerly known as DREAM Charter School and Harlem RBI) is an innovative educational and youth development organization, serving over 2,500 East Harlem and South Bronx youth in 6 schools.

OPPORTUNITY

The Managing Director of Talent Development, Equity & Inclusion , reporting to the Chief People and Equity Officer , will be responsible for creating and driving DREAM’s philosophy and approach to talent development.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who has a track record of driving results, developing leaders and staff, and launching and seeing through ambitious initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities of the Managing Director include :

Talent Development

  • Drive the development of DREAM’s talent development philosophy;
  • Collaborate with network leaders to plan and execute talent development initiatives; including onboarding, annual personal development plans, cohort learning, specialized professional development opportunities, etc.;
  • Work closely with the Chief Education Officer, Managing Director of Curriculum & Instruction, and Managing Director of High School and Leadership Development to create systems and practices for professional development of leaders and teachers in our schools, aligned with DREAM’s talent development philosophy;
  • Collaborate with the Network School Leadership team and Sr. Director of Talent to innovate and execute development programs for pipeline programs;
  • including In-residence and fellowship programs for teachers and key school leadership roles;
  • Drive the creation of internal development programs to support execution of SPED and STEM strategic initiatives;
  • As needed, conduct short-term, intensive development plans for leaders;
  • Lead Network Team professional development sessions;
  • Observe and assess the quality of leader professional development at DREAM and its schools, in partnership with managing directors of schools and the chief schools officer.

Employee Experience

  • In partnership with with Chief People & Equity Officer, support codification and execution of the employee life cycle programming;
  • Hire, onboard, and develop a Sr Coordinator of Employee Experience;
  • Host ongoing listening tours, focus groups to elicit and respond to feedback on employee experience.

Equity & Inclusion

  • Drive development of organizational priorities and programming connected to DEI including Staff Development, Family Education, and Curriculum adaptations;
  • Create vision for and lead cross-functional DEI Committee;
  • Develop Outcomes Dashboard to monitor and evaluate Diversity, Equity and Inclusion metrics;
  • Lead organizational leaders through analysis and action planning from DEI Employee Experience Data.

Requirements

In order to fulfill these responsibilities, the ideal Managing Director candidate will be / have :

  • Bachelor’s degree, required; Masters Degree in Education and / or School Administration, preferred;
  • Extensive leadership experience with a record of achievement. Principal and / or charter school network leadership experience strongly preferred;
  • Expert knowledge, understanding and experience in developing curriculum, instruction, and professional development systems;
  • Supervisory and leadership development experience with school leaders, instructional staff, and teacher leaders;
  • A deep knowledge of best practices in educational leadership & Human Development and DEI;
  • Able to demonstrate a deep commitment to Equity;
  • Willingness to be hands-on and do whatever it takes to develop and maintain an excellent system of schools and programs;
  • A drive to succeed and achieve great results on behalf of students,
  • A successful record leading effective teams and individuals, managing organizational change and initiating key innovations;
  • A strong analytic, performance management, accountability, and systems-thinking orientation necessary to inform strategy development and execution;
  • An ability to connect with a diverse group of people and build strong relationships grounded in listening and high levels of challenge and support;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to convey complex information to a variety of audiences;
  • A strong belief in the mission and values of DREAM, including the desire to make a difference in the lives of our students, families, and community.

WORKING EXPECTATIONS

  • The Managing Director is part of the People & Equity team, which follows the hybrid network office policy which requires minimum 3 days in office and up to 2 remote days per week.
  • Some evening and / or weekend work, for example to attend network events, is required.

COMPENSATION

DREAM offers a competitive salary commensurate with relevant experience with the potential for an annual performance-based increase.

The incoming salary range for this position is $160,000 to $180,000 per year. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary closer to the start of the range depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role.

All staff are eligible for annual performance-based increases. Because we value staff tenure in each role, we do not currently cap salary ranges.
