SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, supervises and monitors the behavior of students who are outside of class and at-school sponsored activities both on and off campus.
Responsible for the enforcement of applicable District and school rules. Assists in the maintenance of an orderly and safe campus.
Reports directly to the High Schools administration. Incumbent performs related work as required.
EXEMPLARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists certificated employees with preventative discipline by explaining school rules to students and parents; establishes rapport with family and students in order to gain their trust and confidence;
- informs students of acceptable school behavior; patrols in and around the campus during school hours, providing general supervision of students outside the class, and remains alert to problems likely to disrupt the educational process or be physically injurious to persons or property;
- intervenes in situations likely to result in disruption or injury and directs students to refrain from such conduct; checks students who are out of class during class time to inquire as to the reason for being out of class;
- directs tardy students to go to appropriate school office; intercepts non-students who come on campus during school hours and directs them to either report to the office or leave campus;
- notifies the school administration immediately if a non-student fails to comply, returns again after departing, or otherwise creates a problem;
- escorts students to the school administration in cases of serious or repeated violations; completes necessary written reports accurately and serves as a witness in student conferences, disciplinary hearings / proceedings, and legal hearings / proceedings;
assists law enforcement officers in working with students; supervises extra-curricular activities; and may wear District designated attire in a presentable manner during assigned work hours.
May be required to be a member of school's Emergency Response Team(s) Code Blue team, Emergency Drill Supervisor and Student Support Office.
Cooperates with school police and other first responders to address safety issues.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education / Experience : Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be :
- High School diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate or Associate of Arts Degree or higher;
- Two years of experience as a supervisor of middle school or high school age students.
Knowledge of : Student behavior and characteristics; basic discipline and behavior modification techniques; rules relating to student conduct.
Skill at : Communicating effectively with students and adults; and writing clearly and concisely in English.
Licenses / Certificates : Possession of, or ability to obtain, CPR Certification and First Aid Training upon employment.
Physical Demands : The work requires continuous walking and standing. There may be bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts;
or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
Work Environment : The environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, residences, or commercial vehicles, e.
g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals.
The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
