Your impact
Under the guidance and direction of our Executive Chef / Food Service Director, in the kitchen and dining areas of our Senior Living Community, you are a vital part of enhancing the daily lives of our residents.
The Dining Room Manager manages all aspects of the dining department in the senior living community, ensuring the delivery of nutritious, appealing meals to residents while adhering to dietary needs and restrictions and preferences.
The role involves administrative duties, staff management, hands-on service, and interaction with residents.
Job Specific Duties
- Oversee daily dining operations, including meal preparation, service, and clean-up.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards.
- Maintain menus in collaboration with the culinary team, considering residents' nutritional needs and preferences.
- Assist in managing inventory needs for the dining rooms.
- Ensure the dining areas are clean and well maintained.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate dining services staff, including chefs, cooks, servers, and dishwashers.
- Schedule staff shifts and manage labor costs within budget.
- Conduct regular staff meetings and provide ongoing training and development.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Maintain accurate records of inventory, staff schedules, and resident dietary preferences.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
- Manage the dining services budget, monitor expenses, and implement cost-control measures under the direction of the Food Service / Executive Chef.
- Interact with residents to obtain feedback on dining services and address any concerns or special dietary needs.
- Organize special events, themed dinners, and holiday meals to enhance resident satisfaction.
- Ensure excellent customer service is provided to residents and their families.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations related to food service in a healthcare environment.
- Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and innovations in senior living dining services.
What you will need
- 21 years or older, pending specific state requirements.
- Strong written and oral communication and leadership skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and high standards of cleanliness and service.
- Compassionate and patient demeanor with residents and staff.
- Ability to learn, manage and train site POS system, scheduling system and other basic computer skills required for this role.
- Prior experience of 1-2 years of supervisory / management experience in managing a dining room and team.
- Strong teamwork skills.
- Successful background check and drug screen, state specific.
- Health screening and TB tests, state specific.
- ServSafe Certification, Basset card and State Food Handlers Card, state specific.
- Ability to read, speak, write and comprehend English.
- The ability to work holiday and weekend rotation shift schedules on the AM shift.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
Requires mobility to stand and walk extensively during meal preparation and service. Lifting, carrying trays, and boxes, up to 25 pounds.
Pushing / Pulling food hot boxes up to 50 pounds. Bending and stooping for access to carts, food, trays, and other kitchen equipment.
Manual dexterity for the use of kitchen utensils and tools. Visual acuity for reading menus, labels, and directions. Hearing ability to respond to verbal communications.
Exposure to hot and cold temperatures. Taste and smell to assess food quality, freshness, and adherence to dietary requirements.
Ability to distinguish colors for food presentation.
