We are seeking a Director of Partnerships and Community Engagement for our Wilmington, North Carolina Team!

The Director of Partnerships and Community Engagement, will collaborate with key community partners to drive the development and execution of initiatives and campaigns that support Self-Help's mission of serving underserved communities, especially African American,

Latino and rural communities and women throughout northeastern and southeastern North Carolina area. The Director of Partnerships and Community Engagement will work in collaboration with key branch staff as to raise awareness and utilization of Self-Help's products and services throughout northeastern and southeastern North Carolina area including deposits, lending (home, consumer and commercial), policy advocacy and real estate development.

Additionally, this individual with work with other Self-help community and engagement teams, including DPI and others, to maximize our effectiveness.

WHAT You'll DO :

Serve on appropriate committees or boards to gain awareness of activity and projects in the region around community lending and investment, affordable housing, economic development, racial justice, etc.

Coordinate with appropriate Self-Help / CRL teams regarding high-impact projects where Self-Help might participate.

  • Become a strong partner with other nonprofits working in these same areas by identifying ways in which Self-Help may support those organizations.
  • Extend Self-Help's community economic development reach into rural areas of Wilmington, through and including our retail branches as appropriate.
  • Become a trusted community partner and leader by collaborating on projects that serve our mission groups, grounding Self-Help's work in actual community need.
  • Engage with public officials and media, as appropriate and needed, on issues concerning the communities we have pledged to serve.
  • Support programs in our local branches that make our members aware of Self-Help's mission, products, and services.
  • Work with retail credit union staff and Self-Help leadership to identify how our products and services can support the needs of our partners and community members that also align with Self-Help's existing offerings.
  • Participate in formal, as well as informal training, to maintain deep and current knowledge of all SHCU products and services.
  • Analyze trends in the community to identify potential opportunities to develop / strengthen community partnership that will lead to growth in our outreach and engagement opportunities.
  • Facilitate the development of a strategic plan for Self-Help's partnerships and community engagement in Wilmington area with input from credit union staff, members and leadership and other Self-Help program teams and local community members.
  • In coordination with branch staff and program teams, create pipelines to expand use of our products, such as home loans or small business loans, within the communities we serve.
  • Analyze partnership opportunities in context of Self-Help priorities and operational and programmatic / underwriting realities and coordinate with various product leads, loan officers and branch managers.
  • With the Marketing and Communications team, develop communication plans, including social media, needed to enhance awareness of Self-Help.
  • Develop and execute strategies for raising mission-aligned deposits directly from socially responsible investors.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with high-net-worth individuals, nonprofit organizations, faith-based and philanthropic organizations, banks, businesses, and others interested in community and socially-responsible investment.
  • Communicate impact to our investors to keep them engaged
  • Make regular contact with key investors to provide enhanced stewardship and gain a better understanding of the reasoning they have for opening or closing large deposits with us.
  • Work with investor relations team to assess data regarding the inflow and outflow of deposits, as well as the impact of particular campaigns and outreach efforts.

Hold local forums, in coordination with branch staff, to introduce Self-Help to potential partners, members, and depositors.

prepare communication materials that will answer impact, financial, and insurance-related questions from potential investors.

Perform other duties as may be deemed necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Graduate degree preferred.
  • 7 years' experience working in financial services, community organizing, nonprofit organizations or other relevant experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Wilmington coastal region and surrounding communities with 5+ years of engagement in Wilmington community organizing and building, preferred
  • Strong commitment to our mission - creating economic opportunity for all, especially underserved communities.
  • Prior lending, retail banking and / or real estate a plus.
  • Working knowledge of or aptitude to learn financial reporting and analysis, lending, real estate development, credit union products, services, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to build and / or expand effective business development networks and referral sources that lead to increased loans, deposits, memberships, and partnerships.
  • Entrepreneurial vision, creativity, and the ability to translate it into action.
  • Ability to effectively present information, both orally and in writing, and to appropriately and skillfully respond to questions from the media, groups, and / or individuals.
  • Computer competence required, with Microsoft office tools a plus.
  • Willingness to work independently, as part of a larger but often remote team, without administrative assistance
  • A deep practice of building and sustaining relationships with care.
  • Preference for working in organizations that place priority on teamwork and collaboration
  • Demonstrated commitment to addressing the needs and issues of the communities we work with. An understanding of systems of power and oppression, particularly around race, class, gender, sexual orientation, religion and culture.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative work ethic, and entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Comfort in working with people from other cultures.
  • Spanish preferred but not required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to Durham and other branches, community events, other regions.
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends, and travel when necessary.
