Introduction
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Director of Engineering to lead our cross functional engineering team building government focused software defined radios and applications.
This is primarily a management role, with responsibility spanning across our hardware, software, FPGA, and test engineering teams.
The ideal candidate has first-hand experience with the complexity of advanced engineering projects, and has been a successful maker on engineering teams in the past.
Additionally, the ideal candidate has a track record of developing and managing high-performing engineering teams, an entrepreneurial mindset, communicates effectively with both technical and non-technical teammates, leads by example, and is passionate about customer success as well as their mission.

Job Responsibilities
- Manage a team of engineering functional managers and individual contributors across multiple engineering disciplines (this Director role is anticipated to have 15-25 engineering team members reporting to them, spanning across software, hardware, FPGA, and test engineers)
- Work closely with the technical leaders on our projects to ensure the engineering team members are successful and thriving on their projects
- Work closely with our product management team to ensure there is alignment between our product roadmap priorities and the engineering execution within our project teams
- Provide technical guidance for proposals, system architecture, and product strategy where it aligns with the individual’s background and experience
- Work closely with functional area leaders to establish and implement engineering standards, policies, and procedures to ensure quality and compliance
- Advise and mentor team members by sharing best practices across projects, early identification of challenges, roadblocks and mitigations, and encouraging professional development
- Participate in our engineering recruiting and hiring efforts, working closely HR as well as engineering functional managers
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and learning within the engineering team.
Requirements
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field; Master’s degree or MBA preferred
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in engineering roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management position
- Proven track record of leading and scaling engineering teams
- Strong technical acumen in at least one engineering discipline (hardware, software, FPGA, or test engineering) with the ability to dive deep into product and engineering details
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement engineering strategies and processes that drive productivity and innovation
- Excellent project management skills, with experience in delivering complex projects on time and within budget
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to a non-technical audience
- Experience with recruiting, hiring, and mentoring top engineering talent
- Ability to foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and customer-centric product development
- Experience with budget management and resource allocation
- Understanding of compliance, security, and industry-specific regulatory requirements
- Willingness to take ownership and be accountable for team outcomes
Desired Skills (one or more)
- Experience in the domain of RF / wireless system development and product engineering
- Familiarity with high value defense / security-related products
- Experience with RF test / measurement / sensing of both commercial and non-commercial wireless signals
- Experience with hardware development lifecycle
- Experience with software development lifecycle and agile methodologies
