The Washington Veterans Home has a great leadership opportunity as the Registered Nurse 3, Neighborhood Coordinator / Resident Care Manager !

Please Note : The expected shift for this position is 7 : 00 a.m. to 3 : 30 p.m., Monday through Friday. This position is currently overtime eligible.

This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step T. Step U has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules.

Position(s) at this location will also receive 5% Premium Pay for facilities open twenty-four hours per day. Employees must physically work at the facility 3 days per workweek to qualify.

The 5% Premium Pay is in effect until June 29th, 2025.

As the Neighborhood Coordinator / Resident Care Manager (RN3) , you will provide professional nursing services, have oversight in the delivery of nursing and nursing-related care, and other vital duties while maintaining a collaborative relationship with resident care staff. Some of what you'll do :

  • Direct and supervise subordinate nursing personnel while serving as a role model of healthcare provision.
  • Work collaboratively with evening and night shift supervisors to ensure program consistency and adherence to policies, procedures, and standards to areas of supervision.
  • Coordinate assignments of staff to residents and provide direction and information via accurate communication of current resident status and care needs to staff.
  • Monitor subordinate staff's attendance and meet with them regularly to review and address concerns.
  • Coordinate staff education with the Staff Development Coordinator and assist with staff training.
  • Attend care conferences and provide input.
  • Oversee reporting of incidents and ensure prompt, thorough initial investigation of incidents in compliance with regulations.
  • Review and understand MDS reports.
  • Determine necessary follow-up on areas of concerns through regular review of MDS acuity reports.
  • Serve as weekend, day-shift supervisor for the facility on a rotating basis to ensure senior nursing leadership is available to nurses on the floor.

  • Current, valid registered nursing license.
  • Three (3) years of professional nursing experience.
  • Ability to :
  • Provide a positive living environment for residents relating to meeting psychosocial needs, follow written and verbal directions;

document and report observed changes in patient condition and behavior.

  • Demonstrate accurate methods and practices of nursing and restorative care; personal hygiene and sanitation methods, record keeping, report preparation, infection control procedures and resident rights.
  • Assess, evaluate, and participate in the development of appropriate plans of care. Plan, implement, and document appropriate discharge planning for residents when appropriate.

Perform selected nursing procedures.

  • Demonstrate excellent professional nursing practice and patient care.
  • Employ strong clinical skills and long-term knowledge, including regulatory requirements.
  • Set priorities under challenging and changing circumstances.
  • Coordinate, delegate and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrate strong computer skills with mastery of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Access, and Excel.
  • Speak, read, and write in the English language for medical charts; perform data entry; always maintain confidentiality;
  • provide a positive living environment for residents relating to meeting psychosocial needs; follow written and verbal directions;

document and report observed changes in patient condition and behavior.

Preferred / Desired :

  • Valid Washington State registered nurse license.
  • Bachelor's degree involving major study in nursing.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience in :
  • Working on an interdisciplinary team serving residents with dementia diagnoses.
  • Long-term care.
  • Knowledge of :
  • State and Federal Regulations and guidelines for resident assessment.
  • Resident Assessment Instrument process and Care Planning.
  • Accurate methods and practices of nursing and restorative care; personal hygiene and sanitation methods. recordkeeping, report preparation, infection control procedures, and client rights.
  • Demonstrated ability to :
  • Recognize the importance of resident-centered care and the need to identify psychosocial needs.
  • Earn the trust, respect, and confidence of residents, coworkers, and customers through consistent honesty, forthrightness, and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Serve as an effective role model to staff.

Special Requirements :

Must be able pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check prior to beginning services and every two (2) years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.

000 Background Checks. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.

  • Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening in accordance with DVA policy 670.000 Tuberculosis Testing.
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and be capable of reaching a minimum of 36" using proper technique to stock shelves and access supplies.

Employee must also be able to push or pull with sufficient strength and walk, sit, and bend in an unrestricted manner during the entire workday.

Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by the Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards.

Must be able to wear a respirator, medical gloves, gowns, eye protection, and other personal protection as required by a job or task.

  • Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver's license and must be insured if driving a privately owned vehicle on state business.
