POSITION : The in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications from exceptional candidates for one full-time, tenure upon hire position with a 9-month academic appointment beginning January 1, 2025.

This position will be 50% research, 40% teaching, and 10% service allocation of effort. Applicants will be considered for the faculty title of Associate Professor or Professor, with the intent of holding the Gary ’68 and Kay Smith Endowed Chair in Meat Science Excellence.

The endowed chair part of the appointment will be reviewed for continuation at five-year intervals.

The successful candidate will be a tenured Associate or Full Professor with an exemplary teaching, research, and service portfolio.

The Gary ’68 and Kay Smith Chair in Meat Science Excellence will be modeled after the career of Dr. Gary C. Smith ’68, who leaves a legacy as an outstanding classroom teacher, lifelong mentor of graduate students, a strong leader in research, and a dedicated servant to the national and international communities.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : The primary focus of this faculty position will be to support cutting-edge research and teaching to advance the meat science discipline and educate future meat science leaders.

The successful candidate will enhance a multidisciplinary faculty leading meat science into this transformational era and strengthen a robust meat science faculty.

All faculty members in these appointments are expected to make significant contributions in the areas of scholarly research, teaching, and service.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership and mentoring abilities and the ability to inspire faculty and students to progress in their research and scholarship endeavors.

Developing and leading an extramurally funded, internationally recognized research program in meat science will be expected.

The successful candidate will contribute to the educational mission of the Department of Animal Science through teaching activities that enhance undergraduate and graduate curricula as well as engage disciplinary stakeholders at the state, national, and international levels.

REQUIREMENTS : A Ph.D. in Animal Science or a related field emphasizing meat science or muscle biology. Evidence of prior faculty-level experience, successful grantsmanship, and outstanding research accomplishments are required for appointment at the Professor rank.

A demonstrated ability or potential to contribute to the undergraduate and graduate programs through teaching and mentoring is required.
