POSITION DESCRIPTION

Building on the momentum of several staff and faculty recruitments related to UCLA's commitment to becoming a federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) by 2025, the Division of Undergraduate Education, in partnership with the Office of Student Affairs, invites internal (UCLA) and external candidates to apply for the position of Executive Director of UCLA's new Latinx Success Center (LSC).

The LSC responds to the Chancellor-appointed HSI Task Force recommendation to establish a center that can provide culturally responsive support for students and information for campus educators.

The Executive Director reports to the Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Partnerships, and will oversee the long-term development, management, direction, and evaluation of UCLA's first Latinx Success Center.

This role involves creating and implementing academic as well as co-curricular programs that support the holistic success of Latinx and first-generation student populations.

The Executive Director works closely with the Associate Vice Chancellor, Campus Life to enhance the experience of Latinx undergraduate and graduate students across all disciplines at UCLA.

The Executive Director will collaborate with Student and Academic Affairs departments and other campus entities to provide the most effective delivery of programs, services, and support networks for Latinx students.

The candidate for this position must possess a terminal degree with at least five years of experience working in higher education.

Preferred experience includes working effectively with diverse Chicanx / Latinx student populations and communities, first generation and low-income students, and individuals with varied identities.

Key Responsibilities

Developing Partnerships, Consultation, and Advocacy. Develops and maintains complex or sensitive relationships with external organizations critical to program success.

Represents the center to UC, the local community, and other relevant audiences.

Strategic Planning, Program Management, and Evaluation. Provides strategic vision and leadership for the development, implementation, management, and evaluation of services and programming of the Latinx Success Center in partnership with the Faculty and Student advisory boards.

Coordinate and assess campus-wide evidence and theory-based student support and student development initiatives with specific focus on initiatives to assist the Chicanx / Latinx student communities at UCLA.

Student Support. Engage in the coordination and facilitation of campus and community programs and services for and with diverse Chicanx / Latinx student populations.

Oversee the development and implementation of programs, partnerships, and services that support Latinx student mental health and well-being.

Resource and Personnel Management. Design an effective fundraising campaign to grow the permanent endowment for the Center, which includes cultivating the donor base and partnerships.

Establish the Center's Faculty Advisory Committee and Student Advisory Board to direct the annual assessment of the Center's goals and objectives and execute committee recommendations.

Prioritize and monitor the Center's annual operating budget, project annual budget and allocate grants and awards. Supervise Center staff and ensure effective and efficient operation of the Center.

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic qualifications

  • Terminal degree
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and / or experience.

Additional qualifications

  • Experience working effectively with diverse Chicanx / Latinx student populations and communities, first generation and low-income students, and individuals with varied identities.
  • Deep commitment to diversity, social justice, and equity.
  • Knowledge of multicultural education and campus climate topics.

Desired qualifications :

Spanish fluency is strongly desired for parent and community partnering and advocacy.
