Provides charge nurse responsibilities, including assignments, management of throughput, staffing to matrix, and responding to patient and staff needs.

Manages a patient care assignment as indicated by patient care needs. Assists with hiring, education and performance evaluation of the staff.

Works with the Nurse Manager and Human Resources in performance management counseling and discipline of staff. Instructs staff and ensures compliance with standards through daily on-going monitoring and performance management.

Serves as a role model and mentor for excellence in clinical practice and patient and employee satisfaction. Takes personal responsibility for achieving productivity targets and budget compliance.

Has primary involvement and responsibility for unit performance improvement activities and outcomes.

Patients who are critically ill with neurological, neurosurgical, and head & neck (ENT) surgery receive expert care from our CA5 ICU team.

Patients in this unit have conditions such as acute ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, brain tumors, intracranial aneurysms, neuroinfectious diseases, neuromuscular diseases, status epilepticus, and head and neck cancers.

Because we have a Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center, our physicians, nurses, and other specialists are trained to recognize and treat stroke symptoms and provide immediate help, improving outcomes for stroke patients.

Nurses manage patients with external ventricular drains (EVD), ICP monitoring, invasive lines and drains, and routinely recover patients from our operating rooms, that need our expert Neuro and ENT care.

Nurses may also be trained to be part of the acute stroke response team (ASRT), with additional training, once they are an established team member.

Responsibilities :

  • Takes personal responsibility for achieving productivity targets and budget compliance.
  • Has primary involvement and responsibility for unit performance improvement activities and outcomes.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

JOB REQUIREMENTS Required : Bachelor's or Master's Degree in NursingRegistered Nurse in State of KansasBasic Life Support (BLS) Certification or obtained within 14 days of hire.

As a condition of your employment and continued employment with the health system, you are required to secure a Nurse Compact License (NCL) within 60 days of your date of hire.

This will enable you to perform your job duties not only in Kansas, but other compact states. You will be responsible for any expenses you incur in securing this license, and must provide your manager with evidence of this license before the sixty-day period expires.

If you fail to secure the NCL as required, you will be immediately removed from the work schedule and placed on an unpaid administrative leave, until we can understand the reasons for your non-compliance.

Further failure to comply with the licensing requirement will result in your end of employment with the health system. Preferred : 2 years of clinical experienceProfessional Nursing Certification
