DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Provides leadership in assigned areas of the Exceptional Children's Program.
Visits schools to assess the effectiveness of instruction and compliance with state and federal regulations.
Advises the exceptional children's program administrator on the status of the program including curriculum, instruction and personnel.
Advises teachers and principals regarding selections of materials and equipment.
Identifies exemplary educational practices and shares information with other teachers of exceptional children.
Helps develop teacher's skills in diagnostic-prescriptive techniques to ensure that exceptional children's needs are addressed and remediation goals and objectives are written and implemented.
Assists with interviewing and selecting teachers of exceptional children and support personnel.
Plans and implements a comprehensive system of staff development for teachers in assigned areas.
Provides supervision, if required, to clerical staff in the educational diagnostic centers.
Observe teachers as requested by principals.
Mentors new teachers as requested.
Chairs curriculum and other special projects committees.
Reviews and evaluates cases and IEPs for compliance and quality.
Reviews and endorses temporary assignments for exceptional children's program placement.
Ensures awareness of program compliance requirements for teachers in assigned areas.
Assists in federal and / or state compliance monitoring activities.
Serves as team player and role model for other employees in the organization; demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement;
supports and exhibits organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, being customer driven, and valuing diversity.
Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Possess the visual acuity to work with data and figures, operate a computer, do extensive reading and prepare and present written and oral reports and statistical data.
Must have finger dexterity and be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.

Must upload a legible copy of official transcripts for all degree levels, and copy of NC Teaching License (License cannot be Initial, Residency, or Limited).
