This position's primary area of focus is the facilitation of New Hire Orientation, New Graduate Nurse Residency Program, and Student Affiliation.

The primary goal of the Clinical Nurse Educator is to develop competent caregivers for quality patient care. The roles used to accomplish this include educator, consultant, and practitioner.

The Clinical Nurse Educator is a clinical educator and professional practitioner with expertise in a specialized area of nursing.

The Clinical Nurse Educator is accountable and responsible for facilitating, guiding, and supporting nursing personnel in delivering safe and effective patient care.

1. Assesses the learning needs of department nursing staff and develops an educational plan to meet these needs.

2. Develops, implements and evaluates the orientation program for new personnel in department.

3. Develops, implements and evaluates inservices and continuing education programs for department in collaboration with the Education Department.

4. Identifies the learning needs of the relevant patient population and supports the nursing staff in developing appropriate educational materials in collaboration with the Patient Education Committee.

5. Based on department Quality Improvement results, develops and provides educational offerings as appropriate.

6. Develops and implements house wide and department based competencies.

7. Participates in the development, dissemination, or implementation of department standards, policies and procedures for nursing care.

8. Functions as a clinical role model by providing patient care, when appropriate, for the purpose of educating staff and maintaining own clinical competence.

9. Promotes improved quality of patient care.

10. Attends all department staff meetings.

11. Attends meetings with Manger as needed.

12. Provides for clinical consultation within the framework of the multi-disciplinary team meetings, as requested by the Manager.

13. Identifies any staff or patient related clinical issues or problems and communicates to Nursing Director or Department Manager as appropriate.

14. Provides clinical coaching to staff as needed when clinical issues are identified.

15. Follows up with Department Manager when performance improvement plans are not met.

16. Assists the Manager with development and implementation of new programs and projects.

17. Utilizes positive communication skills to effect resolution and team work.

18. Contributes to cost-effective patient care by monitoring use of time, equipment and supplies.

19. Complies with safety policies and procedures in order to provide a safe environment for employees, patients and visitors.

20. Demonstrates necessary flexibility in regard to changes in Hospital or department activities.

Education : Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) required. Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.

Licensure : Current California RN license. Current BLS / Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards.

Experience : Minimum of one (1) year Clinical Registered Nurse experience preferred in specialty areas. Must have successfully completed SVMH Pharmacology test.

The hourly rate for this position is $69.15 - $86.44. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for this position.
