The Opportunity

DAT is looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer to join our core services development team. This position will work hybrid in either our Denver, Colorado or Beaverton, Oregon offices.

Candidate profile

  • Veteran engineer with proven breadth and / or depth of technical experience.
  • Experience transitioning services to AWS using AWS cloud native services
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a project or feature including planning, design, development, and deployment.
  • Ensures technical and inter-team dependencies are noted and well understood by the team.
  • Works within their team to foster a culture of priority setting and urgency in all aspects of delivery.
  • Improves code structure and architecture in service of testability, maintainability and observability.
  • Writes, co-writes, and reviews design documentation. Provides constructive criticism.
  • Mentors other engineers, individually and in groups.
  • Collaborate with architecture groups to guide and define the technical direction.
  • Write unit, integration, and functional tests.
  • Participate in design & code reviews.

What You'll Do

  • Work cross-functionally to craft industry leading software experience for our customers.
  • Leverage AWS to transition existing services to the cloud and deliver efficient, cloud-native solutions.
  • Write unit, integration, and functional tests, and guide others in doing the same.
  • Review functional requirements and analyze their impact on schedule and software design.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring and direction to other team members.
  • Design and develop high volume, low latency, backend services and other code that is reliable, maintainable, and extendable.
  • Serves as on-call first responder for software their team owns
  • Participate in design / code reviews.
  • Document software designs and project tasks.
  • Work with team members to improve development processes and practices.

The Skills and Experience You'll Bring

  • 5+ years of experience working with Java, J2EE, and / or Spring to build software systems and backend services.
  • Applied knowledge of AWS native technologies such as MSK, DynamoDB, RDS, Lambda, SES / SNS / SQS, API Gateway, S3, Route53.
  • Passionate about achieving high quality results and strives to continuously raise the bar
  • Working knowledge of DevOps pipeline and build / deploy tools.
  • Effective interpersonal, written communication skills..
  • Committed to ongoing professional development and learning.
  • Practical experience of Design Principles and Patterns.
  • Applied Knowledge with unit testing.
  • Exposure to Agile and at least one agile methodology such as SCRUM, XP, or SAFE.

Bonus Skills

  • Understanding of messaging systems like Kafka.
  • Experience with Elasticsearch / OpenSearch.
  • Applied knowledge of Cloud-native deployment tech like Terraform, CloudFormation.
  • Experience lifting and shipping legacy applications from on-premise / co-located data centers to cloud platforms.
  • Applied Knowledge of Microservices and related best practices.
  • Experience with containerization and local development toolings for Docker & Kubernetes.
  • Experience with object-oriented / functional programming languages : Python, Java, C++, Scala, etc

For Colorado-based candidates, in compliance with Colorado's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the minimum salary for this role is $105,000.

00 + benefits. The maximum compensation for this role can vary significantly depending on your job-related skills and experience.
