The Role
As the Project Manager / Estimator, you can expect responsibilities in the following areas :
Project Planning and Coordination :
- Develop detailed project plans, including schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
- Coordinate with various stakeholders, including clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and team members.
- Ensure project objectives, timelines, and milestones are clearly defined and communicated.
Team Leadership and Management :
- Lead and manage the project team, providing direction, support, and motivation.
- Assign tasks, set performance expectations, and monitor progress.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration among team members.
Project Execution and Monitoring :
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the project, ensuring work is progressing as planned.
- Monitor project performance using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Conduct regular site visits and inspections to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
Risk Management :
- Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Monitor and manage risks throughout the project lifecycle.
- Address and resolve issues and conflicts promptly.
Budget and Cost Control :
- Track project expenses and manage the budget to avoid cost overruns.
- Approve and manage purchase orders, invoices, and subcontractor payments.
- Provide regular financial reports to stakeholders.
Quality Assurance :
- Ensure that the project meets quality standards and client expectations.
- Implement quality control procedures and conduct regular inspections.
- Address any quality issues and implement corrective actions.
Reporting and Documentation :
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including progress reports, meeting minutes, and change orders.
- Prepare and present project status reports to clients and stakeholders.
- Ensure all project documentation is complete and archived appropriately.
Estimator Responsibilities
Cost Estimation :
- Analyze project requirements, drawings, and specifications to prepare accurate cost estimates.
- Determine the quantities of materials, labor, and equipment needed for the project.
- Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers.
Budget Development :
- Develop detailed project budgets based on cost estimates.
- Break down costs by categories, such as labor, materials, equipment, and overhead.
- Ensure that the budget aligns with the client's financial constraints and project objectives.
Pricing and Bid Preparation :
- Prepare and submit competitive bids and proposals to clients.
- Include detailed cost breakdowns, schedules, and terms in the bid documents.
- Collaborate with the project team to ensure bids are realistic and achievable.
Market Analysis :
- Stay informed about market trends, material costs, and labor rates.
- Conduct market research to identify potential cost-saving opportunities.
- Adjust estimates based on changes in market conditions.
Value Engineering :
- Identify cost-effective solutions and alternatives to reduce project costs without compromising quality.
- Propose value engineering options to clients and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with designers and engineers to implement cost-saving measures.
Review and Validation :
- Review project plans and specifications for accuracy and completeness.
- Validate cost estimates with historical data and industry benchmarks.
- Conduct site visits to assess project conditions and validate estimates.
Client and Stakeholder Communication :
- Communicate cost estimates and budgetary information to clients and stakeholders.
- Provide explanations and justifications for cost estimates and changes.
- Address client inquiries and concerns related to project costs.
Combined Responsibilities
Project Integration :
- Ensure seamless integration of project management and estimation activities.
- Maintain alignment between estimated costs and actual project expenditures.
- Monitor project progress and adjust estimates and plans as necessary.
Continuous Improvement :
- Identify areas for process improvement in project management and estimation.
- Implement best practices and lessons learned from previous projects.
- Invest in ongoing professional development to stay current with industry trends and technologies.
What Can You Bring?
- 10+ Years of industry experience
- 3+ Years of Project Management
- 3+ Years of Estimation
- Low Voltage & Electrical Construction experience
- Rail Transportation project experience is preferred
