The Center’s current projects support our policy goals and help to keep homeownership affordable by responding to the rising cost of homeownership, predatory scams, rising sea levels, and more extreme weather.

Through its wholly-owned CDFI subsidiary, Sustainable Neighborhoods, LLC, the Center makes residential loans that other NYS-licensed lenders are often unwilling or unable to originate to qualified individuals and families to support these goals.

Position Summary The Center is hiring a Senior Program Associate of Loan Closing to join a team dedicated to helping middle and working-class homeowners sustain affordable homeownership throughout the State of New York.

The candidate we seek to fill this position will play an integral role in processing grant and loan closings, tracking the pipeline, ensuring that the required loan closing documents are packaged correctly, and adhering to the compliance and QC audits of the recently closed pipeline.

In addition to facilitating the mortgage loan closing process, the ideal candidate will also be driven to support the mission of helping homeowners successfully navigate through a broad range of homeownership affordability issues including, but not limited to, foreclosure prevention, scam prevention, coastal recovery, and resiliency.

This is a full-time, exempt position. This hybrid role is intended for candidates within commuting distance from our office.

  • Must be in the office 2 days per week. Primary Functions Prepares closing documents for all lending Review loan files for proper compliance, disclosures, signatures, and documentation Calculate figures and QC prepared required documents for closing;
  • resolve any errors with original documents Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements; verify accuracy and consistency of specifications on all documents Issues the notices to borrowers as needed Handle all borrower complaints and concerns Attend regular meetings with finance to ensure that loan funding processes are moving smoothly Work closely with Senior Program Manager of Loan Closing to correct files and maintain pipeline accuracy Issue closing instructions to settlement agents;

order and review title work for mortgage loans Act as a backup for submitting all invoice payments for the department across all vendors and programs Reconcile recording rejections so all loan recordings can be processed properly.

Escalate recording issues should be submitted to the Senior Program Manager of Loan Closing Assist servicing team with research when applicable Updates loan pipeline trackers, loan operating system, & loan servicing interface as needed Send out loan funds on the official loan funding date (if checks) Assure adherence to federal and state regulatory requirements Skills and Qualifications Ability to communicate verbally and in writing Ability to read, understand, and interpret mortgage loan documents Ability to work independently and also as part of a team Ability to understand real estate finance and mortgage terminology Moderate analytical skills Knowledge of mortgage loan closing policies, procedures, and documentation Strong technical skills, including Microsoft Office software Passionate about promoting affordable homeownership, thriving and equitable New York neighborhoods Able to coordinate, organize, prioritize, and execute multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced setting Experience with Salesforce, Bytepro, The Mortgage Office, and / or strong technical skills and willingness to learn additional software platforms Education and Training An Associate's Degree or at least 3 years of relevant experience in a related field is required Some training in the areas of mortgage lending and closings Experience At least 4 years of experience working as a mortgage loan closer for a bank, credit union, or mortgage lender Experience supporting the mortgage loan closing activity as a paralegal or legal assistant for a law firm or title company is a plus Essential Mental and Physical Functions Regularly required to speak English clearly and hear the spoken word well.

Regularly required to physically operate routine office equipment such as telephones, computers, etc. Regularly required to lift heavy equipment such as boxes, posters, etc.

Regularly required to utilize near vision ability to read data and documents, including spreadsheets and reports, in printed form and on computer screens.

Work Environment Noise level is consistent with levels usually present in an office environment. Hazards present are consistent with those common to an office environment.
