Delray Eye Associates is searching for an energetic, patient focused, team oriented Ophthalmic Scribe for our multi-specialty ophthalmology practice in Delray Beach, Florida.

As an Ophthalmic Scribe you will provide accurate documentation and summarization of the examination and recommendations, while maintaining patient flow and communication regarding appointment status.
Responsibilities
- Make introductions and establish rapport with patients
- Initiate patient evaluation, documenting the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and all pertinent ocular findings accurately and in accordance with compliance guidelines
- Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician, and other procedures
- Communicates with patients regarding follow up care, surgeries, procedures, changes in schedule, signs and symptoms, surgery schedules
- Maintains and cleans all ophthalmic equipment being used
- Ability to document and apply correct ICD-10 and CPT Codes
- Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with strong attention to detail.
- Effectively navigate NextGen software or applicable EHR
- Complete requests for prescription refills as authorized by physician, with full documentation in patient chart
- Educate patients regarding administration of medications
- Check temperature of medical refrigerator daily
- Maintain and conduct inventory of medications and supplies
- Assist with maintenance of clinical examination equipment
- Clean surgical instruments in preparation for sterile processing
- Inspect instruments periodically for damage, send for repair, and request a replacement, as necessary
- Open and close exam lanes daily, ensuring equipment is wiped down in an appropriate manner and as per office procedures, battery powered instruments are seated properly in re-charge wells, slit lamps and projectors are switched off under covers
- Follow all safety procedures as per guidelines
- Prioritize building and maintaining a positive relationship with doctors and clinical colleagues
- Executes duties of position in a professional and courteous manner
- Handles sensitive information in a confidential manner
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, staff, managers, and doctors.
- Basic computer literacy required.
- Highly energetic with a positive attitude.
- Must be willing to travel to other offices occasionally to meet the demands of business.
- Must be able to walk and stand for eight hours.
- Must be able to type or write legibly in a dimly lit setting.
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) preferred
- Certified Ophthalmic Scribe (OSC) preferred / Ability to obtain certification within one year of employment
- Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred
- Two years as medical scribe preferred
- Knowledge of ophthalmology billing / coding strongly preferred
- NextGen or applicable EHR experience preferred
