Determines and directs legal matters relating to the Credit Union operations, processes and procedures, interacting with all business units, as needed, with respect to the same.
Formulates and sets legal policies, procedures and strategy with respect to Credit Union operations and legal matters. Ensures that Credit Union practices, policies, business activities and operations follow operational legal policies and guidelines.
Provides legal advice to Credit Union executives, line managers, and staff with respect to Credit Union operations, including but not limited to, review and preparation of contracts (vendor, licensing, information technology, real estate acquisition and leases, insurance matters, loan documentation (commercial and consumer), employment practices (including immigration related matters), real estate development analysis, member services and related potential disputes or litigation related to the foregoing if any, loss mitigation issues and related potential or pending claims, disputes, dispute resolution, or litigation with respect to the foregoing, if any.
Selects, manages, and engages legal relationship agreements with independent counsel. Assists independent counsel with regulatory or compliance matters related to Regulation Z, RESPA, collection practices or other matters as needed.
Communicates with executive-level management as relates to duties and responsibilities. Participates in overall strategic and business planning for Credit Union.
Attends Credit Union and community events as appropriate during and outside of regular business hours. Completing continuing legal education requirements for the Florida Bar.
Qualifications Juris Doctor degree. Licensed to practice law in Florida and in good standing with the Florida Bar. At least 10 years previous relevant work experience, as a General Counsel or in a private law firm representing corporate and financial institution clients.
Extensive knowledge and understanding of federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to credit unions and general business operations.
Extensive knowledge and understanding of Credit Union business policies and procedures. Extensive knowledge and understanding of Credit Union computer systems and software programs as may be required to successfully perform job duties and responsibilities.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills in order to interact professionally and effectively with all staff, members, outside counsel, and government regulators.
Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality with respect to any and all duties and responsibilities of General Counsel.
Excellent organization, prioritization, analytical, and problem solving skills in order to effectively oversee areas of responsibility and attain goals set.
Able to analyze and resolve complex problems and situations requiring broad-based solutions that impact areas outside of immediate responsibility.
