Job Description
The Role : As a Failure Analysis Lab Technician, you will be responsible for conducting technical lab work which supports prototype failure analysis and materials development investigations.
You will develop and execute SOPs focused on producing world-class analysis outcomes in the areas of sample preparation and physical / chemical characterization.
You will provide technical support for materials and failure analysis investigations with the goal of driving design and manufacturing improvements.
To enable this, you will be proficient in the following :
- Optical inspection and measurements
- Mechanical cross sectioning and associated sample preparation
- 2D and computed tomography (CT) X-ray inspection methods
- Materials testing execution (thermal-mechanical and environmental testing)
- Lab equipment maintenance
This position is on-site and may include up to 10% international and domestic travel.
Export Control Requirement :
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.
e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Basic qualifications :
- 2 years" related work experience with Associate of Science degree in laboratory technology, electron microscopy, x-ray analysis or related field
- Experience in performing bulk materials or electronics cross sections
- Excellent written / communication skills
- Experience with lab safety best-practices
- Experience in writing SOP documents and lab reports
Preferred qualifications :
- Bachelor of Science degree in materials science or related field
- Experience with failure analysis methodology to derive a root-cause diagnosis of failure
- Experience with materials and failure analysis techniques. Examples include SEM / EDX, mechanical test, dye and pry, hardness testing, and 3D surface profiling
- Experience with X-ray inspection and measurement software (VGSTUDIO or similar)
- Experience in an aerospace-related lab environment
- Experience in making custom fixtures (3D printing, machining, prototyping)
