Heat Relief Worker

LOCATION : Chandler, AZ

STATUS : 2FT ($20 per Hour) and 10PT ($16 per Hour) Temporary positions ( Positions will run from May 1st 2024 - Sept 30, 2024)

The Chandler Corps of the Salvation army is looking to fill multiple Heat Relief Worker positions. The qualified candidates for these positions will demonstrate a positive attitude, with the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances, and be able to administer crisis / emergency services for the homeless.

These positions are temporary and will run from May 1st thru September 30, 2024.

QUALIFICATIONS :

• High School Diploma / GED required
• Demonstrate a positive attitude, with ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances
• Able to maintain a non-judgement attitude, professional approach and boundaries with clients
• Able to handle crisis / emergency services for the homeless and to utilize crisis intervention, crowd management and conflict resolution skills
• Ability to assess at risk participants and situations
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Successful criminal background clearance

RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Monitor activities of heat relief participants, keeping visual and continuous interaction with clients
• Handle check-in of heat relief clients and upon arrival using proper record keeping, screening procedures, provide program information and check sex offender registry
• Conduct client baggage check, remove and store weapons, tools and cell phones, return the same upon exit
• Set up / Tear down equipment and stock / restock supplies used
• Ensure compliance with program rules and expectations, maintaining a safe and manageable environment
• Handle signups for shower, laundry and clothing services, providing hygiene items and laundry soap
• Assist participants within the limits in processing issues and problem solving
• Monitor the smoking patio for appropriate usage and cleanliness
• Clean area during usage, mopping spills, sanitizing cots, wiping tables, and showers, making sure to follow CDC guidelines to ensure safety of participants and staff
• Investigate and report activity and incidents appropriately, or as needed to emergency responders, such as police, fire and / or ambulance personnel, according to established guidelines
• Provide accurate and through written communication in the (IR) Incident Report Logbook for management and Support Workers review
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor as it relates to the position of Heat Relief Worker

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms.

The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and / or move up to 35 pounds, and occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
