RESIDENT CAMP ASSISTANT COOK 4 WEEKS SUMMER 2022

POSITION SUMMARY :

The Assistant Cook is responsible for assisting with cooking and food preparation duties. They will maintain a positive working environment consistent with the YMCA camp goals and values.

Work commitment is 4 weeks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

• Assists in preparing and serving healthy and nutritious meals to camp participants and groups.
• Helps with preparing and maintaining stockroom, freezers and coolers.
• After each meal : cleans food serving counters, washes and disinfects counters, helps put food away.
• Supervises waiter call campers in the duties of washing dishes and cleaning the dining hall.
• Utilizes leftover food in meal preparations as appropriate and safe to minimize waste.
• Documents and reports when inventory quantities are low in stockroom, freezer and cooler.
• Maintains clean and safe kitchen work areas, stockroom, freezer, refrigerator, dining room, dish room and loading dock in accordance with State of Minnesota health regulations.
• Follow all program policy and procedures including Child Abuse Prevention Policies.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the Camp Director

QUALIFICATIONS

• Never convicted of any child abuse including sexual abuse
• CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification required within 60 days of employment (YMCA provided).
• Minimum age of 18.
• Demonstrate talent for interacting with a variety of people.
• Ability to effectively coordinate multiple priorities and problem solve.
• Must be willing to work hard in a team environment to feed 125 people three times a day.
• Must have written and verbal communication skills.
• High School Diploma / GED Equivalent Desired

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs).

Perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time.

The ability to calmly and effectively react in an emergency situation.
