COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

Position : Full Time with Benefits

Salary Range : $73,903.87 $105,188.25

About the Area :

Veneta (pop. 5,261), a progressively growing community, 12 miles west of Eugene and centrally located, offering easy access to the Oregon Coast and the Cascade Mountains.

Home to the Oregon Country Fair and the Fern Ridge Reservoir one of Oregon’s most popular lakes for sailing and wildlife viewing.

About the Position :

  • This position reports directly to the City Administrator and is responsible for the delivery of all services relating to land use development;
  • land, building, and municipal code regulation; housing regulations, and environmental protection regulations. Primary responsibilities include the development, coordination, and supervision of all long range and current planning activities relating to the Comprehensive Plan;

working with developers on land use matters; implementing land use ordinances; grant research, writing, and management in support of capital planning and projects.

As a member of the City’s executive management team, staffs the Veneta Planning Commission and Veneta Park Board, and provides guidance to the Veneta City

Council. Position provides supervision of an Associate Planner and Office Support Specialist III (Animal Control, Building / Electrical, Court, Code Enforcement, PW / Planning Assistant).

Position Requirement :

  • A valid Driver’s License or state issued identification card.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in urban planning or a related field. Considerable knowledge or demonstrated ability to learn the practices used in Oregon land use laws and regulations and related community development activities.
  • Thorough knowledge of public administration, personnel management, public purchasing and budgeting practices, master plan development, process analysis for improved efficiency, and applicable state or federal environmental regulations.

Proven ability to develop and write procedures, and work-flow systems.

Position requires five years of increasingly responsible experience in areas of planning, community development, or public administration, with three years of supervisory experience, or any satisfactory combination of experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the above duties.
