Observation Unit - I1
The 38-bed Observation unit is an outpatient unit specializing in a wide range of conditions, including chest pain, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, precordial pain, syncope and collapse, hypertensive heart disease and chronic kidney disease.
This fast-paced environment has telemetry monitoring and houses patients who are typically on the unit less then 24 hours.
Nurse are given the opportunity to help support and care for patients of various ages and backgrounds. All nursing staff are trained in advanced cardiac life support and collaborate with employees from several different departments including, social workers, case management, nurse assistants and unit secretaries.
The unit has nurse practitioners and physicians who work collaboratively with the nursing staff to meet the patient's needs.
The staff is kept on their toes as this unit has an expedited, protocol-driven approach to patient care to provide the best treatment in a timely manner.
- Provides leadership in the coordination and delivery of quality compassionate patient care.
- Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to provide, delegate, supervise and document care and teaching of patients and family.
- Effectively communicates pertinent patient / family information to health care team.
- Participates in finding solutions for variances from patient goals and ensures implementation of solutions.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :
- BSN preferred. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- Clinical knowledge and analytical abilities necessary to formulate effective nursing care plans.
- Ability to perform a wide variety of professional nursing services.
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, and hospital personnel.
CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSURES REQUIRED :
Current licensure by the Michigan State Board of Nursing. RN Lactation Consultant : IBCLC certification must be acquired within 12 months of hire & maintained.
One to two (1-2) years as a Lactation Consultant / Specialist preferred. NOTE : See attached job description for PICC Responsibilities.
