Position Summary

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (UWL) http : / / www.uwlax.edu / Chemistry-and-Biochemistry / is seeking a dynamic teacher-scholar at the Assistant Professor level to join its top-rated program in August 2025.

The department strives to maintain an inclusive and collegial working and learning environment for our faculty, staff, and students, and we welcome applicants who share our commitment to these values.

Our new colleague will teach lecture and laboratory courses in the core curriculum along with advanced elective courses in their areas of expertise.

Applicants able to teach nuclear chemistry to nonmajors will be given special consideration. We seek a scholar to develop an active research program involving undergraduates.

Laboratory research expertise, which may include interdisciplinary areas, is preferred. Our department and college maintain a large array of modern instrumentation resources , including research and teaching laboratories in the state-of-the-art Prairie Springs Science Center, which houses the Radiation Center.

Required Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. degree in chemistry or related discipline at time of application
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship at the undergraduate level
  • A research plan that is appropriate for a Primarily Undergraduate Institution
  • Peer-reviewed publication record
  • Evidence of teaching and / or mentorship experience
  • Ability to teach courses in general chemistry

  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness
  • Excellence in oral and written communication
  • Ability to teach nuclear chemistry courses to nonmajors
  • Postdoctoral research or relevant professional experience
  • Expertise that complements the department

The UW-La Crosse campus is in southwestern Wisconsin, nestled in a residential area of the City of La Crosse and positioned as part of a larger metro area with a population close to 140,000.

The area, known as the 7 Rivers Region, is famous for its exceptional natural beauty which includes the Mississippi River on one side, majestic bluffs on the other, and views of rolling farmland and forested valleys in between.
