JOB SUMMARY
Undergeneral supervision, performs routine analyses and quality control and recordsresults.
Maintains laboratory glassware inclean and useable condition.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
1. Performsroutine analyses and quality control as required.
2. Maintains detailed records ofwork performed and results obtained.
3. Cleans and stores laboratoryglassware per analytical requirements.
4. Records equipmenttemperatures and performs bacteriological analysis on weekends and holidays.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS :
5. Assist with collecting samples.
6. Performs additional duties asrequired.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required :
- Knowledge of basic chemical, biological, and analytical concepts used to analyze water, waste water and environmental samples.
- Knowledge of computer basics.
- Knowledge of math, including decimals and use of equations.
- Knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, calibration and maintenance.
- Knowledge of quality control principles and application.
- Knowledge about state and federal rules and regulations regarding water quality and water treatment processes
- Skill in communicating with other city employees and the public by oral and written means
- Ability to maintain detailed records and organize workload effectively.
- Ability to work independently in the absence of specific instructions.
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound.
- Ability to distinguish colors.
- Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to seeing, sorting, holding, carrying, squatting, and writing.
- Ability to lift or exert forces equivalent to lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to operate, calibrate, and maintain a variety of laboratory equipment including, but not limited to, the accurate use of thermometers, burets, pipets, analytical balances, pH meters, DO meters, Chlorine / Ammonia colorimeters, UV-Vis spectrophotometers, turbidimeters, ion-selective electrodes, microscopes, titration principles and sterile sampling techniques.
- Incumbent is subject to dust / mites, fume / odor, chemical, mechanical, electrical, radiation, explosives and biological hazards.
Qualifying Education and Experience :
High school diploma plus six hours of college level Chemistry and / or Geology and three hours of
computer basics. Or any equivalent combination of education and experience. TCEQ Class D Water License is required within first 6 months of employment.
