The Competition Robotics Coach is a member of the school’s Upper Division and reports to the Upper Division Head. This part-time, 6-month position covering part of the Fall and Winter seasons (October 2024 through March 7, 2025) comes with the responsibility of working with faculty and staff to support the school’s mission and curricular goals.
Responsibilities
- Co-facilitate Competition Robotics sessions every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 2 : 00 to 4 : 45 pm. until March 7, 2025.
- Design and implement training programs focused on robotics design, documentation, programming, and competition strategies.
- Provide hands-on instruction in robotics principles, including mechanical design, electronics, and coding.
- Prepare teams for competitions by developing strategies, building robots, and coordinating logistics.
- Offer guidance and support to students, encouraging creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.
- Attend carpool pick-up from 4 : 30 to 4 : 45 pm
- Chaperone no less than two full-day off-site competitions
- Ensure all activities adhere to safety regulations and best practices in robotics.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred.
- Experience using the design process.
- Experience with block-based coding and Python.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of teaching experience at the middle school level is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, and other adults
- Strong communication skills, including experience in writing student comments and other school-related documents
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in teaching and learning & experience in working in a culturally diverse community.
- Ability to think independently along with being collaborative in a team environment
- High integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
- Maintain focus, adaptability and composure in an energetic and, at times, loud environment
- Effectively interpret, navigate, mediate, and resolve conflict with students and families in a timely manner.
- The ability to hold meetings in person and via supported video conference tools (i.e. Zoom or Google Meet)
- Proficient or the ability to learn Google tools and other applications as adopted by the school, such as Veracross, SchoolPass, Atlas etc.
Physical Requirements :
- The ability to sit and stand uninterrupted for 30 minute periods of time.
- The ability to traverse on and across variable surfaces (e.g. level flooring, stairs, turf, gravel, asphalt, etc.).
- The ability to lead, supervise and accompany students to all areas of the school campus (including all indoor and outdoor areas), including during day-to-day responsibilities and in case of emergency.
- The ability to position oneself (e.g., stand, sit, crouch, and kneel down) in order to support students.
- The ability to work outdoors, year-round, in variable weather conditions.
- The ability to lift and hold 15 lbs overhead.
- The ability to occasionally transport (e.g., move or drag) 25 lbs
- The ability to maintain focus and composure in an energetic and, at times, loud environment
