Description :

This position is a part of our Community Engagement department and will report to an offsite location. This is a part-time role that works with the LOOP Program, which provides elementary and middle school kids a safe, fun place to learn about themselves and the world around them.

LOOP is free in the Grand Rapids Public Schools (GRPS) and offers academic support (tutoring, homework assistance, etc.) by certified teachers.

The program also has an array of virtual youth enrichment activities including recreation, arts, and cultural activities, virtual field trips, and more.

Loop is funded by the 21st Century Grant. The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids currently oversees nine Loop site in the GRPS schools.

The YMCA of Great Grand Rapids utilizes a Membership By Design framework, which is a member involvement and community building model for YMCAs across the country.

All staff membersfront-line, management, full- and part-timeand volunteers have a role to play in member engagement. These responsibilities can be broken into six steps :

POSITION SUMMARY

The Site Coordinator supervises day-to-day operations of the school site and for staff, children, and parents of the Loop program .

This position requires face-to-face leadership in this program and may involve early morning and evening responsibilities.

Must be available for summer & school-year programming :

  • Summer in-program hours : Monday-Thursday 12 : 00 - 3 : 30 PM.
  • School year in-program hours : Monday - Thursday 2 : 30 - 6 : 00 PM

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES

  • Assist with implementation of the LOOP program and activities
  • Schedules vendors, field trips and other YMCA Enrichment programs
  • Provides monthly lesson plans to the Program Director
  • Provides on-site supervision of the programs
  • Assists in managing licensing folders
  • Maintains adequate rosters for program and makes periodic reports
  • Assists in recruiting, orientating, and enrolling children / families to the programs
  • Confers with parents regarding facility activities, policies, and enrollment procedures
  • Confers with staff regarding child's behavioral or learning problems, and recommends methods of modifying inappropriate behavior and encouraging learning experiences
  • Arranges medical attention for ill or injured child in accordance with parental instructions
  • Performs classroom teaching duties during absence of LOOP assistant teacher
  • Ensures the safety of all Loop participants by enforcing safety standards and following emergency procedures
  • Swims with children during swim lessons
  • Manages 2-10 program staff
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Association's policies and applicable laws
  • Audits timesheets
  • Assists with annual performance reviews
  • Supports the Association in recruitment of diverse employees and volunteers
  • Plans, assigns, and directs work; rewards and disciplines employees; addresses complaints and resolves problems

Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids

COMPENSATION

$17.42 - $21.77 ; Part-Time; Non-Exempt (up to 25 hours / week)

Requirements : Qualifications

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or Associates Degree in Early childhood education, elementary education, secondary elementary, physical education and recreation, child development, child guidance / counseling, child psychology, family studies, social work, or human services and youth REQUIRED;

three to five years related experience; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be 19 years of age or older.

Past supervision experience preferred. Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages and lifestyles. Ability and desire to work with children 5-15 years of age.

Working knowledge of computers and experience with a variety of software applications. YMCA experience preferred

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

  • State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT)
  • Blood Borne Pathogen training
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification required within the first 60 days
  • First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days
  • AED-Oxygen Certification required within the first 60 days
  • Fingerprinting
  • DHS clearance
