Position Summary
The Health Information Specialist I is responsible for collecting medical records from medical providers on all incoming patient cases.
This role will require an attention to detail and an understanding of the medical records requirements.
Job Responsibilities
Contacts physicians’ offices and / or other healthcare providers to obtain patients’ medical records for use in submitting claims to insurance providers.
Clearly records and maintains complete documentation of activities performed in account notes and other databases.
Meets all deliverables and goals set by department.
Meets all regulatory agency requirements as they pertain to job function.
Maintains accurate and complete documentation in client and patient records in order to continuously improve the customer service process and meets regulations requirements.
Builds strong customer relationships through client focus, professional demeanor, reliability and responsiveness.
Works to research and resolve problems in a timely manner while maintaining productivity standards and performance guarantees where applicable.
Assists as needed to perform other related duties and special projects as required.
Accepts other duties as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent required.
One to three years of experience in a client services’-type environment required
Understands HIPAA and importance of privacy of patient data.
Conditions of Employment : Individual must successfully complete pre-employment process, which includes criminal background check, drug screening and reference verification.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s degree preferred.
Medical office role knowledge / experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of managed care plans, insurance billings and ICD-9 coding preferred.

Experience with both hands-on and phone based support of PC based hardware, Windows operating systems, and productivity software.

Physical Demands
Employee may be required to lift heavy supplies; may weigh up to 30 pounds.
Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
Must possess ability to perform repetitive motion.
