Job Description
Invenergy is seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Senior Manager for Government Affairs to support our growing Public Affairs team.
This position is in Sacramento and would report directly to the Vice President for Government Affairs. Key responsibilities include :
Working across Invenergy businesses and Departments to develop positions on California energy policies, and effectively advocating for Invenergy’s position at agencies, legislative offices, and within other stakeholder groups in CA, and other areas as appropriate.
Executing strategies working alongside relevant policy and other teams at Invenergy.
As a Senior Manager, California Government Affairs, this individual will focus on Invenergy’s California government affairs activities for all aspects of Invenergy’s growing business.
This individual will work collaboratively with members of all departments within the company, including but not limited to Offshore Wind Development, Onshore Development, Origination, Transmission, Regulatory, and Environmental Compliance & Strategy.
In addition, this position requires an ability to work constructively with legislators and their staff, trade organizations, lobbyists, and peer companies.
As a liaison between the company and government entities, this individual is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to educate and influence government policies.
This position requires experience in navigating the complexities of the political landscape and an understanding of energy policy and politics in California.
To be successful in this position, the right candidate will have experience and expertise in state and local energy policies, strong relationships with critical senior-level energy stakeholders, excellent communication to effectively work with Invenergy leadership and external stakeholders.
In addition, this individual will need the ability to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders at varying levels, ranging from entry-level employees to senior management.
This person should also have demonstrated experience, knowing when to escalate urgent issues to management and when to provide routine updates.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Identify energy policy needs for Invenergy in CA, in alignment with Invenergy’s corporate goals and in coordination with the public affairs team in CA, as well as other Invenergy departments and companies.
Effectively advocate for those positions with state, industry, and other stakeholders as appropriate.
Provide energy policy and political expertise to maximize Invenergy’s corporate goals for California.
Builds and fosters relationships with government stakeholders.
Engage CA legislative leaders and staff in furtherance of company goals by leveraging existing strong government and political networks within Sacramento.
Manage issues that arise before assigned political bodies, by providing updates on policy advocacy efforts, including real-time updates on quickly evolving issues.
Assist with public affairs and governmental affairs programs, including relationship management, political strategy, and local government affairs as needed.
Build industry coalitions in support of priorities, work constructively with trade organizations and peer companies.
Be an effective team member by working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels and positions.
Prepare regular reports and briefings for internal stakeholders.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
5+ years of lobbying or other relevant experience in California, preferably on energy issues (State Legislative or Executive branch staff member).
The candidate will have substantial external contact responsibility and should be experienced in building partnerships, especially with policy makers and stakeholders of diverse interests.
Working knowledge of clean energy policy, solar / wind / storage technologies, and transmission.
Proven leadership track record and relationships within State Government Agencies / Administration.
Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of internal and external audiences.
Ability to work in a corporate environment as a remote employee.
Bachelor’s degree required.
Salary Range
Salary : $125,000.00-$160,000.00
