Team focus : The engineering team delivers a math library and data science application that is used by world class data scientists and quantitative researchers.
We are seeking an experienced Technical Writer to work with internal customers and engineering team to shape the API, application view and documentation to fit the user workflows.
This role provides documentation in a form that empowers users to employ tools more effectively and efficiently. Inspiration may come from documentation on open-source libraries such as numpy (numpy.
org) and scikit-learn (scikit-learn.org).
Summary of Job Functions
- Develop organizational standards for comprehensive documentation
- Gain deep understanding of products, and translate complex information into simple, polished, engaging content
- Develop toy problems that illustrate intent of functions, overloads, capabilities, and limitations within the math API
- Write user-friendly content that meets the needs of target audience, turning insights into language, illustrations and code snippets for user success
- Evaluate current content and develop innovative methods for improvement and wider dissemination
- Research, outline, write, and edit content, working closely with developers and users to understand the evolving math library and data science application
- Gather information from users and from software developers on how to use tools
- Work with software developers to identify code documentation and other documentation repositories, revise and edit, and determine best solutions for data compilation, storage and search
- Develop content in alternative media forms for maximum usability, with consistent voice across all documentation
- Maintain searchable meta data on alternate descriptions of functions
- Collect and maintain meta data on users search patterns
- Provide level 1 support for users interacting with the Application UI and Math API, helping them navigate documentation and using their questions to inform documentation design
Minimum Requirements
- Two or more years of experience as an effective technical writer
- Experience writing LaTeX
- Proven ability to quickly learn and understand complex subject matter
- Ability to write software scripts (C# or Python) in support of creating code examples
- Understanding of statistics and machine learning concepts
- Superb written communication skills, with a keen eye for detail
- Experience in working with engineers to improve user experience (ex : design, UI), refine content, and create visuals and diagrams for technical support content
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred Skills and Previous Experience
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in journalism, communications, or relevant technical field
- Previous experience in software development
- Plotting / Charting experience such as matplotlib, seaborn, ggplot, etc.
- Professional certification (ex : Society for Technical Communication)
- Experience in using XML tools to create documentation
- Experience using Jupyter Notebooks
