Position Information
The Department of Natural Sciences (DNS) at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) seeks applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of biology in the area of genetics / genomics.
DNS houses the biology, chemistry, biochemistry, and environmental science undergraduate programs and graduate programs in Chemistry, Marine-Estuarine and Environmental Sciences (MEES), and Toxicology.
We seek candidates whose expertise and work bridge these programs and who demonstrate experience in genetics and genomics that may include genetic mechanisms, epigenetics, transcription and gene regulatory networks, coding and noncoding mechanisms of action and function, developmental genetics and signaling, and genome-environment interactions.
Candidates using in vivo and in vitro animal models such a zebrafish are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities
- Teach a diverse student population and prepare students broadly for futures in graduate and professional schools.
- Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate genome science, genes and development, principles of genetics, graduate / professional level molecular genetics, and / or courses in the candidate’s area of interest and expertise.
- Candidates will develop an extramurally funded research program, mentor undergraduate students through their capstone research experiences, train graduate students in the Marine-Estuarine and Environmental Sciences and the Toxicology graduate programs
- Contribute to departmental and program self- governance.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- PhD in genetics, biology, or related field.
- Accomplishment in publishing and writing grants.
- Experience teaching or mentoring undergraduates.
