Position Description
Kinder Morgan Treating is a leading manufacturer and the largest provider of contract operated natural gas treating plants in the United States.
We design and build treating and processing plants to ensure that natural gas and liquid hydrocarbons conform to sales pipeline specifications and downstream markets.
The primary purpose of the Quality Control Manager position is to implement the Quality Management System to ensure quality manufacturing of gas treating products that meet or exceed customer requirements and comply with all project specifications, drawings, codes, standards, and regulations.
This is an individual contributor role without direct reports, but works closely with the overall team and provides oversight for the Quality Control program by working closely with another peer Manager.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS :
- Promote quality achievement and performance improvement throughout the organization
- Improve an established quality plan to ensure our products, quality systems, and policies remain in compliance with our manufacturing standards
- Effective team interaction with production and development to maintain product supply and introduction of new products
- Ensure compliance with national and international standards and legislation
- Perform root cause analysis to ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented
- Manage project information, compliance and regulatory audit documentation, inspection reports, testing and examination records, and manage our product release program
- Monitor vendor performance by gathering data and producing statistical and historical reports
- Identify and deliver relevant quality assurance-related training as needed
- Collect and analyze performance data and charts against defined parameters
- Evaluate and ensure all tests and procedures are properly understood and carried out by fabrication and assembly personnel
- Ensure nonconformities are investigated as needed
- Write technical and management systems reports
- Adhere to QA compliance objectives and ensure that targets are achieved
- Maintain awareness of the business context and company profitability, including budgetary control issues
- Assess the product specifications of the company and its suppliers, and compare them with customer requirements
Position Requirements
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, ETC. :
- Bachelor’s Degree in applied science or engineering field or equivalent work experience
- Must be a Certified Welding Inspector (AWS QC1) with working knowledge of the NBIC Repair and Alterations code and / or API 510
- Certified Quality Auditor designation preferred
EXPERIENCE / SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE :
Minimum of five (5) years prior experience in Quality Assurance for Fabrication and Manufacturing in a Shop that fabricates products to ASME codes (i.
e., B31.3 and Section VIII, Div. 1)
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 or API Q1, ASME, NBIC, and API codes and standards
- Experience working in the oil and gas industry, or a pipe and vessel fabrication shop with welders, pipefitters, manufacturers, suppliers, and distributors
- Experience in quality management systems and quality system audits
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
- Strong background in pressure vessels, ASME codes Section VIII, B31.3, weld mapping
- Fabrication shop experience, skid units, and AWS / CWI Certified Weld Inspector
- Proficient with technology (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, DB management systems, software applications, Smartsheet)
- Desire to own decisions and take responsibility for outcomes
- Demonstrate a passion and a responsibility for consumer satisfaction
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
- Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision and / or direction
- Must be analytical and a problem solver with the ability to identify problems and / or cause-effect relationships; identify key issues;
secure relevant information from all appropriate sources; identify possible root causes of problems and develop and implement corrective actions for resolution of problems within tight timeframes to resolve quality control problems.

WORKING CONDITIONS :
- Work hours will primarily be a 5 / 10 schedule
- Very limited travel (e.g. 2x per year) may occur, including overnight stays for several days
- The inspection work will be conducted in the fabrication shop and the administrative activities will be conducted on a computer in an office environment
- Must carry a mobile phone and be able and willing to respond after hours and / or weekend / holiday issues, including emergencies
- May occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds
